View Full Version : Before you die...
Dapthar 09-19-03, 08:49 PM Hello all,
I would like to pose two simple questions, which are as follows:
What are 3 things you would like to accomplish before you die? Also, what are 3 events you would like to occur before you die?
They don't have to be in any particular order, and feel free to list more than 3. Finally, for any life goals you have already accomplished, just put a * next to them. Same goes for the events. Also, if you care to, put a brief explanation of why you chose those particular events and goals.
Well, here's mine (in no particular order).
Things I'd like to accomplish.

2.) Live to be at least 120 years old.

Things I'd like to see.
1.) A stable, functional wormhole.
2.) Humanity turn to solar power or other types of clean energy as opposed to fossil fuels.

After death I hope to still have some power over my own fate and that which is around me. I do not want stagnant bliss, hellfire, or void.
Dapthar 09-20-03, 12:41 AM I'm surprised no one has mentioned becoming rich (http://www.dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/archive/images/dilbert2003091355220.gif) as of yet. A lot of hopeless romantics out there though, definitely not something I expected from sciforumites, but the I guess people picked love over money since money can't buy you love (http://www.angelfire.com/musicals/beatles6/cantbuy.mid) (about 30 KB, so it should only take 5-10 seconds on 56K).

Dr Lou Natic 09-21-03, 10:53 AM Didn't you hear redoubtable? "Love" has officially been attributed with magic powers now:rolleyes:
Before I die I am definately going to kill someone. I just can't see how one could validate not experiencing that in their lifetime.
There's no more chances, if you don't kill someone in this life you will never ever get to kill someone ever.
I'll be kind and make sure I kill someone who has experienced the joy of killing.... oh wait, but then people might mistake me for a vengeance seeking eye for an eye weirdo and I don't want to remembered as something so lame.
Hmmm confliction:( advice?
Redoubtable 09-21-03, 11:14 AM Join my coup, Lou.

gendanken 09-21-03, 12:33 PM My accomplishments:
1. I plan on having a little boy that I'll raise like a ferral child.
2. Buy an island in either the Caribbean or off the Gibraltar strait. I plan on living out naked and barebreasted the way women once did on Lemnos. (or Lesbos?)
3. Finding the biological miracle that will finally rid this world of that annoying little shebeast known as My Period.
Things I'd like to see before going
1. The whole American west coast clumped up on the beaches to scream out my name.
2. A castration.
3. Earth from the moon. Not some whiny little picture but my legs ankle deep in moondust looking out at that beautiful blue ball embedded in velvet. That's god.
allow me a fourth...........
4. Manson free as a bird in my kitchen so we could discuss his bloody charades over hot cocoa.

Agh! How the poets writhe in your murders. Fie, leave the wordy gems to their jewelers, un-mastered friend, and forever anon rest your head on what suits you.
I have no high hopes for my life, I just want to live through the whole thing well fed and content. I strive to be nothing more than average, to have no-one notice my passing, to disappear in the masses.
Though it would be nice to see organized religion lose it's role in the world and fade into history.
Redoubtable 09-21-03, 01:18 PM Thou doth prate as Eol'an noise,

The joys of haunts whence thou far roam
Fare thou from distant Ith'can home?

Lemnos, balmy res'dence of thee,

Morteza Olangui 09-21-03, 01:33 PM Hi:
I have bought bread and I have been given red roses,
how happy I am to have both in my hands. Kithara Hakushu
Are you happy? I mean do you take the sip out of every moment. Are you content with what you own. If you were born in another place and you had another nationality, would you have said : I am happy - of cource if you are now.
What if, God forbids, you were in pain and in bed. Will you feel the same? If you had no money and you were in desperate need of it, will you still call yourself happy?
I myself am happy. I have my family and I have a job. I care about my environment. when people the whole world over are in touble, I feel sad. That feeling and that understanding is part of my happiness.

Because being rich is a goal only for fools. Being rich is good - when know how to handle that. But it is only a way. You can do great things when you are rich. But just being rich is nothing. Being rich is also a problem. There is envy of others. Demands, expectations. Fear. Responsibility. So I am not surprised at all. Because this thread is about WISHES. If you can acomplish your wish without being rich, why to bother?
My turn:
Like to accomplish:
1. To be able to see my kids being well, happy and with children of their own.
2. To do some music. I am a writer, but I prefer music. But I am not good enough. Music is something irresistible to me. My head is full of beautiful music, but I am not able to play it or write it. But still I am the slave of music.
3. Get rid of my depressions and fatigue. I have so many ideas, but I am not able to bring them to life, because I feel entirely exhausted sometimes.
Like to see:
1.I would like to see “The Brave New World” – the world with hope. The world without religion. The world of strong, independent and altruistic individuals. The world without hatred.
2.Something good and beautiful beyond my imagination.
3.The solution for the mystery of life and universe.

3.Know the meaning of life.
this one is granted - life has no meaning but itself!

Aren't those two in fact a contradiction? How you can live happily when half of your relatives and friends suddenly die?

This one is no that difficult to achieve, is it? Just buy a chicken, soak it with gasoline and do what you must do. (just mind your dick!)

1. An equal distrubution of wealth based on a fair system of peoples contribution to society
That is contradictory. If wealth is distributed based on an individual's contribution, it will never be distributed equally since not all people contribute the same amount to society.
cthulhus slave 09-28-03, 12:34 AM I'd advise against this summoning, cthulus slave. The beasts are frightfully mutinous, prone to recalcitrance, no?
i could bother to look up "recalcitrance", but im asuming its a typo or you made it up. and big deal if it turns on me and rips me to shreads or pulls me into the void. that would be one awsome way to go.
This one is no that difficult to achieve, is it? Just buy a chicken, soak it with gasoline and do what you must do. (just mind your dick!)
that would also be a very kool way to abandone this infernal existance... albight panful, but sickeningly kool.
The world without religion. The world of strong, independent and altruistic individuals. I think a world that is devoid of religion is unlikely to be an altruistic one, however perhaps this is just because the main anti-theist theory (Darwin's) has been one that praises the body (existence and 'reality'), and the body alone. There are other things here to glorify too, but then any one of them is not superior on it's own. They are all needed.
For example plants have body and soul, but they have no mind, thus their body has no design or regular pattern. They are souls in seeds. It's only with the mind that we can see the flaws in the soul, yet it is only when the mind becomes disengaged, from being an objective medium between the body and the soul, that we can feel the real power of the soul. Thus after excessive stimulation of the brain (through sensitive nerves), the brain shuts down, and the soul and the physical body meet, alone. Then the soul is released, through seeds.I'm surprised no one has mentioned becoming rich... Being rich shouldn't be a goal, and I don't think it's really being rich that people want. I think they just want to have enough money to live, and therefore to not have to work. I think working is the key: people just don't want to work. Here we can see how the soul interacts with the body. Not every part of the body is likely to be involved in the phantasy's that are contained within the soul, because there are only certain parts of the body that are used for reproduction. Thus if someone has to do something they don't want to do (such as working), the soul is forced into something it doesn't want.

Perhaps I should have said a just distrubution of wealth based on a fair system of peoples contribution to society. Equal pay for equal contribution. Managers contribute very little, paid very little, actual workers who do something get paid more, etc.
