View Full Version : Banned members thread
spuriousmonkey 02-13-04, 05:46 AM YES, I would like to see a sticky thread (in which no regular members can post) with the names of members who were banned and why.
NO, I would NOT like to see a sticky thread (in which no regular members can post) with the names of members who were banned and why.
EDIT: na ja, I made a typo in the poll and can't change it. Obviously 'with' should be deleted.
outlandish 02-13-04, 11:54 AM I vote yes.
I bet the sticky would look like this:
MEMBER: X REASON: coz I can ban whoever I want, it's my forum....
etc etc...
;)
BigBlueHead 02-13-04, 12:57 PM I vote yes. A reason for banning might be instructive, since these last few bans I've heard of have been subtle and mysterious.
Stryder 02-13-04, 01:00 PM I voted no for a simple reason, the amount of usernames that would be banned for things like spamming and being cross posting bots would be so intense that it would just become a waste of space on the forum.
BigBlueHead 02-13-04, 01:05 PM No worse than the picture thread.
Stryder 02-13-04, 01:21 PM Ah but the picture thread can make you laugh. a long list of names that potentially are just troll names created by one person seems pointless.
Ozymandias 02-13-04, 08:03 PM I vote yes. Idle curiosity, I suppose.
Silverback 02-13-04, 10:12 PM I haven't voted at all, mostly because I am new. However, as BigBlueHead said, it might seem to be instructive to know what lines not to cross. Common sense tells me how to behave, personally. I suppose if I was terribly curious, I could just look at the banned persons last dozen posts.
If there was such a thread, I would look, kind of with the same curiosity as slowing down to see a car wreck being towed away on the freeway. So I am guessing it wouldn't truly be that instructive after all.
hypewaders 02-13-04, 10:58 PM Voted no, Silverback explained why very well.
spuriousmonkey 02-16-04, 03:27 AM I voted no for a simple reason, the amount of usernames that would be banned for things like spamming and being cross posting bots would be so intense that it would just become a waste of space on the forum.
Well, I think the idea is to have an list of banned members who were actually part of the community. We all know why a 'cross posting bot' is banned.

Finding the offending posts can be difficult when the poster no longer exists.
Also, I would like to know why a person was banned because the reason is not always obvious - hence the common sense assertion may not apply.
(This is where Tom Ridge is supposed to stick his head out of your toilet and say, "Well, if you're not doing anything wrong, then you don't have anything to worry about.")

ROFLMAO!!! :D
sweet Pentax 03-03-04, 03:07 PM .... porfiry ?
spuriousmonkey 03-04-04, 01:25 AM It seems we have a winner.
Ozymandias 03-15-04, 12:22 AM Even if we don't get a thread with all of the banned users, can we at least get some sort of announcement when one is banned, a link to the post(s) that got that user banned, and maybe some sort of meager explanation? :(
hypewaders 03-15-04, 12:35 AM How about an interruption of all threads with a graphic mock execution: The Passion of the Banned. Or not :bugeye:
hypewaders 04-15-04, 10:21 PM Or the banghouls could just stop posting for 6 months, do some deep thinking, maybe some yoga, and then come back. Tell us why you hate people who don't think like you, or even as much as you, at least according to your unique but singular perspectives, bleating a handful of dim lights in a galaxy of 6,375,882,183 other perspectives. Or really think about it, and come back maybe before you finally die. Or really think really really deep about it, and save the world. Maybe the Autoban isn't so bad, but it's like the afterlife, you just don't know until you're there.
