Wouldn't you be lost without the e-mail notifications from all the threads that you're enscribed to?

I am, are you?

If Bandwith is the problem, than a solution might be to deliver daily digests only??

Please Poll! :)

We have private messages so that could be used instead for the same purposes.

Private messages would eat up even more bandwidth, as they're part of the forums.

I'm really not bothered, but I'd rather have the option of being able to be notified.

I don't think saving bandwith is essential to Sciforums, but I voted for that option because if there is a reasonable economical consideration as to whether to allow email notification or not (and there is such a consideration), then this outweighs my interest in the "comfortability" of the forum.

Plus, I like surprises.

fine.. I'll elaborate.
One, I don't see much convienence in the email notification. I used it at one point, but as I started getting into more threads, I found i would have 20 or 30 emails in my account if I was gone for a day or two. if you combine that with pm notification, it skyrockets.
Secondly, you can check your subscriptions from the control panel. I am assuming that most of us that would be concerned by such a thing visit here fairly regularly, if not daily. That being the case, the email notifications are superfluous.

Third, it's dave's place. If he got rid of them, I'm sure he has his reasons. I'm here for the content of the place. Not nifty little notifications cluttering my inbox. i've got no problem with them being gone and they aren't an option in some of the other forums I go to.

They aren't esential, so they are open to be stripped.

Don't they function anymore? I get my thread notifications.
Don't know about pm, I've turned off that function.

never used them. surely if a thread is that important to you, you can remember its name and location, or write in on a sticky note near your comp

I've always used them, and if you do not, that's no good reason to say they are unneeded.

Yeha, It's functioning again! :)

Now I use the daily digest function, it allows me to follow the thread without having to open the browser. I don't have to log on even! (only if I want to make a contribution)

Formitastic!
