View Full Version : Ball in your mouse odin 10-11-02, 05:02 PM Why do the say,you should never clean the ball in your mouse? Adam 10-11-02, 05:03 PM What twit says that? I pull it apart entirely now and then, clean the whole thing out. Clarentavious 10-11-02, 05:18 PM No no no, you need to, as over time grime will build up in there on the axis' It will make your mouse less responsive and sensitive, and wind up putting more strain on your arm  Or you could just get a 2x Optical mouse. I LOVE mine :) So good for precision and gaming, and you only have to clean the outside. Logitech Infrared Laser mouse with Wheel. Plus it is so much more smooth than a goddamn PS/2 mouse (800 DPI) I could never switch back :) Adam 10-11-02, 05:24 PM I want a cordless optical, but they cost around AU$160. Then I'd have to get a charger and batteries... odin 10-11-02, 06:06 PM Logitech Infrared Laser mouse with Wheel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That sounds nice! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What twit says that? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ They say it in the magazines over here, read it loads of times. They say clean it all except for the ball. Stryder 10-11-02, 06:14 PM I usually don't really clean the ball, not because I shouldn't but because it never looks as bad as roller axis thingies. Usually they get chocked in grease build up from my wrist, and the fungus that happens to grow on the grease.... Mmmmmm Yum!. Some people pick it out with their finger nails, I tend to shove a screwdriver or knife in their and get that crud off the axis. If you don't do it, it can damage your roller axis thingies in the sense that they build up so much it causes pressure between them and the ball and they become dislodged. Which means when you eventually clean it, your sensors are so damaged that your mouse no longer works. By all means go out and get one of those optics mice, although I'm still wondering why they didn't build in a bar-code reader... Go figure.. Clarentavious 10-11-02, 06:17 PM No no no, you want an Optical mouse WITH a cord. The cordless ones will eat through batteries and cost you money. The ones with cords, the cords are plenty long, and go through USB (I believe there is 1.1 support now). Or they have a USB to PS/2 adapter, and you can get the same performance (just a bit more CPU usage, however USB is not good about system resources or bandwidth, so its a trade off - through USB it will work Plug & Play, PS/2 you need Logitech's drivers). The mice with cords here in the US only cost about $30 (for a standard 2 button with scroll wheelie). The big 5 button ones cost more. I imagine most of the price is coming from it being cordless. Adam 10-11-02, 06:20 PM USB huh? No such thing. My computer is too old. Clarentavious 10-11-02, 06:26 PM Here is the one I have http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=3&CONTENTID=4992&countryid=19&languageid=1 Here is the newest model of the same thing (I don't think there's any difference other than it just comes in a red color) http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=3&CONTENTID=4993&countryid=19&languageid=1 Here is their ultimate in optics http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=3&CONTENTID=4984&countryid=19&languageid=1 And here is their optical mouse with the most features http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=3&CONTENTID=4998&countryid=19&languageid=1 As you can see, the first 2 models only cost $30 odin 10-11-02, 06:46 PM That looks good, ill get one when the one I have now packs up. Thanks  yumyum 10-11-02, 09:40 PM the other day in the store i seen a wireless optical mouse for only 20$. it was a logitech i think. Stryder 10-12-02, 06:57 AM Once upon a time, when the WTC stood. There was a rumour that most of the English stockmerchants used Wireless keyboards. Now that might not seem too much of a problem, but the problem was simple, with a few tweaks it was possible to create a generic wireless keyboard that could Hack any of the systems open to it. This meant that Stocks could be manipulated, nasty messages could be sent through the LAN to bosses, and other cruel stunts could be pulled. Without contaminating the consoles true keyboard. Thats pretty much why I killed my wireless keyboard, and if using any remote system would keep to infrared (IR) ports, because you have to be in a direct line to use them, athough if you were a matrix mechanic I'm sure you'd find a way in. |
