View Full Version : BSE cow imported from Canada in 2001
Vortexx 12-27-03, 02:51 PM according to US investigations, must be the French Canadians who did that on behalve of european partners???, what do you think?
stupid neglect or one of the most dirty tricks in trade war since taxing steel ?
EI_Sparks 12-27-03, 04:33 PM Definitely a dirty trick. Couldn't be caused any other way, and those dastardly kanucks probably hid the cow in a specially constructed mobile BSE lab. Best invade quickly and effect regieme change before their Royal Commie Marxist Pinkos invade and blow up orphanages....

MAD COW UPDATE
British Beef Cleared For Irish Consumption
LONDON-Two Weeks into the "Mad Cow" scare that has caused panic throughout the United Kingdom, England's Health Secretary has declared British Beef safe for Irish consumption.
"This beef should be perfectly safe for the Irish to eat" Health Secretary Stephen Dorrell said Monday. "Our top scientists have thoroughly investigated the matter, and they are almost 60 percent certain that Irish people who consume the British beef will not die of fatal brain diseases."
According to British Agriculture Minister Douglas Hogg, more than four million pounds of British beef will hit Irish grocery-store shelves later this week. More than one million pounds will be shipped to Dublin grocery stores and butcher shops alone, most of it at no charge.
Hogg encouraged Irish ethnics to eat "as much English meat as possible."
"Meat from British Hereford cattle is high in many essential nutrients, such as protein, iron, and Bovine Spongiform Encepalopathy," he said. "Eat some everyday, micks.'

sparks you hate the french too? well done we might manage to save you yet!!!.
Being serious though, one case of BSE and the whole world is talking of banning US beef. BSE sadly seems to have started in the UK but cases are diminishing every year and is expected to die out in the not to distant future. Why do we panic so easily?.
Beef consumtion in the UK had already returned to pre BSE levels before the atkins diet came on the scene. Are we brits just brave and refuse to panic or is it that BSE has rendered us unable to panic??
To be honest, I smell a rat! I read the article, and if one reads further, there is an admission that they are not 100% certain where it came from. Trying to pass the buck by the looks of it....pathetic!

Er, two detected and reported cases over six months in different states....

Because CJD is fatal, untreatable, and the agent involved (prions) were not widely known so it was a "new" disease.
You still won't find british beef in most Irish shops today...
And the "Eat British Beef - you can't get better" slogan is still a solid piece of gallows humour :D
spuriousmonkey 12-29-03, 07:50 AM the problem is that the USA never did statistically enough testing of BSE to really detect it. The fact that they do have a case of BSE now is an indication that probably there is a much bigger problem around. It is time to stop sticking your head in the ground and get real. What is the point in these accusations.
You can be quite sure that there were many more cases of BSE that never have been discovered in the US, simply because you didn't look.
BigBlueHead 12-29-03, 09:27 AM Now Canada just needs to invent exploding softwood lumber, and the US will be on its knees.
Maybe the monkey is right and detection is more important...
Undecided 12-29-03, 01:34 PM Now that the US and Canadian beef markets are closed to the rest of the world. That means other beef producing nations will make a killing on the international market, and increase their market share. http://www.sciforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif CDJ is a crazy disease, and I am scared about how much it has contaminated the market. As spuriousmonkey has put it there hasn't been sufficient study of the beef supply, and since I am in Canada it's a scary scenario to see a beef supply that could be contaminated. Beef producing regions like Alberta and Nebraska are going to get hurt by this...duh!
Vortexx 12-29-03, 02:13 PM ......another remote conspiricy theory: suppose there were much more detected cases of BSE in the states, but kept queit ??
Operation Silent Beef

Kept quiet? Mad Cow Disease? Don't be silly - have you even listened to Anne Coulter recently?
Mad cow disease, broadcast on fox :)
As to CJD, well, it would explain a lot about Georgy-boy's behaviour...
I hear Paul Wolfowitz has announced that the bovines in question are suspected members of Al Quieda, one is even rumoured to have taken flying lessons out of a small country airstrip in Texas.
Mooo:D

EI_Sparks 12-29-03, 06:05 PM I was wondering how long before the Weapons of Moo Destruction would make an appearance...

YOU WANNA MESS!
Undecided 12-30-03, 02:01 PM I wonder how bad this BSE outbreak is, in Britain it was huge over 130,000 cows had BSE. Pre-1997 cows, and possibly their offspring are infected with BSE. If more cases are found in the US, over 10 cows let's say. I don't see much hope for American beef on international markets, albeit the American meat market will hurt if the international meat market bans US beef, but 90% of the beef in the US is consumed by Americans. If they lose confidence in American beef then it's a death knell for the American cattle ranchers. I think the only way Americans would eat beef again is if the beef has made in x country on it, so they can feel better about buying it. Surely beef prices will go up, with a shortage of beef on the market. I think that the ban on British beef lasted 10 years, and the British beef industry hasn't recovered. If this goes on the US for long, then the US may lose its edge on the market. 200,000 jobs in the US are directly dependant on beef... this is a serious issue for the US. And Canada as well...
