I know of this from psychology literature.

It's spooky, how much can pass us by!

I didn't see the moonwalking bear either. And the thing is that after a few passes, I didn't even bother to count anymore, I just watched the video, thinking "Oh, I'll notice if something extraordinary happens". Well, I didn't.

Yes, he slips by us unnoticed. He could be behind you right now.

I counted 13 passes but I didn't see the bear until the third viewing. I find it hard to be aware of the bear's existence even when I am looking for him.

They ask you to focus on the white guys, if they didn't say anything or they asked you to focus on the black ones you would probably notice the bear. It was easy the second time around too.

I did.

Got the number of passes correct and didn't see the bear until they did the replay.

That's not fair. The video player had some sort of glitch and I saw the question before the video started. Needless to say I spotted it right away.

this better not be one of those things that make you be all focused and then a monster jumps off the screen and gives you a heart attack

Awareness?
Ability to control an irritated reaction seems more like it.

Then I scored high!
Thank you for reframing that. I feel better about myself.

I'm just glad I wasn't an epileptic who took that test.
