come now did you draw those tigers yourself :), if so i clearly have to improve my mad gif animation skills
spuriousmonkey 05-07-04, 07:53 AM Tiger2 is was made with Illustrator from a 40x40 pixel file.
Tiger1 was made with Easy Icon Maker (15 day trial) and then making the background transparent in Photoshop.
My own monkey avatar was made with favicon as a favicon for my own website (7 day free trial I believe).
aaaah crap, must improve my style :)
that gif was my 2nd gif ever, i used Active GIF Creator 2.19 eeeeh hmm kind of registered
made this yesterday, lets just say it did not start out as it ended
waterfoset(sp?): http://www.aub.dk/~maddog/vandhane2.gif
spuriousmonkey 05-09-04, 09:02 AM I made a shite one:

white on white doesn't show...what should I do?
i see the problem, but strangely that does not prevent me from making fun of it
spuriousmonkey 05-10-04, 05:16 AM hmmm...Maybe it is belgium salt?
(belgium salt - salt which has been enriched with urine)

Bunny

Impressive spurious, You could use a colored background for the salt. Where are all the other avatar artists?
Are you going to be selling your avatars to other forum members could be lucrative :p Better yet patent all your avatars then sue anyone who tries to use something similar unless they pay you first :D
spuriousmonkey 05-10-04, 06:29 AM I made entire websites for free and kept them updated. I don't care so much about money. I like to do these things.
Therefore I doubt I would mind other people using avatars I made for free or even steal them.
Besides I am part of the sciforum community. They let me post for free. I can make avatars for free.
That leads me into another thing. I think that people should also put in requests for avatars. Maybe someone will have the urge to fulfil that request.

jadedflower 05-10-04, 04:48 PM anyone got one for a jaded flower? :p hehe jk
spuriousmonkey 05-11-04, 02:32 AM what is a jaded flower?
---------------
edit:
pencil
http://sciforums.spuriousmonkey.com/pencil_spuriousmonkey.gif
This is my interpretation of a jaded flower :D The background sort of confuses it when it is so small though so I may need to go for a solid color
http://www.companyexforum.no/jadedflower.gif
spuriousmonkey 05-12-04, 05:31 AM I made myself a new avatar as you can see.
It is an image from the new design for my website.
what programs do you ppl use
spuriousmonkey 05-12-04, 05:55 AM 1. Adobe illustrator for vector graphics (I am in love with illustrator)
2. Adobe photoshop for 'photoshopping'
3. Jasc for gif animation
4. Favicon free trial for favicons
5. Easy Icon Maker free trial for 'pixel' icons.
6. NoteTab for HTML
7. WS_FTP95 LE for FTP client for up- and down loading
8. Opera for viewing.
dammit :) let me we a bit more specifik, what did you use to make the avatars in this thread.
HomoSite for HTML (homesite)
BulletProff for FTP
Mozilla Firefox for veiwing
Active GIF Creator 2.19 for avatar (drawing them pixel by pixel :))
OpenOffice for Office crap
Geez spurious is "Da Man" I only use photoshop.
no wonder you can get so much more detail in you pixs then :)
edit: spuriousmonkey would it look better if you made the right ear of your new avatar a bit more round ?
spuriousmonkey 05-12-04, 06:40 AM How about my ears now?
jadedflower 05-12-04, 07:05 AM path; that's hillarious...!!! But I'm Jaded, not drunk ;)
spuriousmonkey 05-12-04, 07:11 AM Since i don't know what a Jaded Flower looks like I made this one:

I have a request for an avatar. :)
Could someone make me a nice rosy one?
All I have at home on the PC is a paint program which can make only bmp pics -- huge, of course. I have a few scanned photos and at least one is such that I would like to have as an avatar. Would anyone like to make it for me?
That would be awesome. :)

spuriousmonkey 05-14-04, 10:04 AM Not always, but sometimes it is the quickest thing to do. Get a picture from the internet. Copy it in illustrator. Then draw outlines of your scene on a new layer.
like this:
http://sciforums.spuriousmonkey.com/rose_outline.gif
Then fill the outlines with color, strokes, gradients or whatever you want to do.
My monkey or your tiger are not based on a template, but they are just collections of simple shapes, as you can see below.

Monkey! Thanks for the avatar. I'll keep it as a back up until my current one gets banned. :p
sweet, i like the way you "dissect" your drawnings, you make it look simple, sometimes i regret not leaning how to draw :).
spuriousmonkey 05-14-04, 12:42 PM Monkey! Thanks for the avatar. I'll keep it as a back up until my current one gets banned. :p

Bells have any of the muslims complained about your avatar? I got a PM today asking me to change mine and it wasn't from PM either :)
change it to another animal, unless goats is your only desire :)

ROFL, excatly(sp?) my thinking, you did as he requested, how can he complain :)

HEY where can I get one of those vend a goat machines :D
Not sure...this one is ancient, its survived two reformats and a move across computers...one of my friends sent it me me ~3 years ago now I think hehe
Bells have any of the muslims complained about your avatar? I got a PM today asking me to change mine and it wasn't from PM either
LOL! Someone complained about yours? Just tell them that all must love all animals equally... heh..
No, no one has complained about my avatar. Why should they? A butt is a normal part of the human body. We all have one. We use it. Perfectly normal and natural. :D
But then I guess that most on here would have realised by now that to complain to me about it would result in a response of kiss my ass. So they probably don't bother. :D
If anyone has an issue with it, what can I say... It's my God given ass and I'm using it! ;)

Technically speaking, Porfiry did state that animated gifs were not allowed some time ago. But lots of people have them....maybe that is just it...that it is animated.

That's good stuff right there.
Porfiry 05-15-04, 01:08 AM Technically speaking, Porfiry did state that animated gifs were not allowed some time ago.
Honestly, if the animation is pretty minimal (ie. not likely to cause an epileptic fit), I'm cool with it. If your avatar is animated and you haven't heard from me, chances are it's all good.
Spuriousmonkey,
Thanks!!!
I too now have an avatar!
Oh, I'm such a lucky bastard.
Thanks again. :)
And Wes,
thank you for the offer, I'll see if my pics are decent and classy enough to send them to you, they're kinda simple ... :(
moementum7 05-15-04, 11:17 AM This thread is priceless!
I have been inspired to make a new avatar.
I'ULL BE BACH!
spuriousmonkey 05-16-04, 10:40 AM path...your avatar becomes much more innocent if we turn it into a walt disney classic (cartoony animation instead of realistic image)

Greywolf what do you mean you already have an avatar?
ElvisIncognito 05-27-04, 04:06 PM (Not really dead) rock-n-roll legend with NO artistic abilities seeks talented, thirsty artist for mutually beneficial exchange
YOU: Skilled Photoshopper or Illustrator capable of creating a suitable avatar for my well-used moniker.
ME: World class bartender (conditionally) willing to share The Perfect Mai Tai Recipe in exchange for your services.
I'm thinking of a classic Elvis pic (or cartoon/caricature drawing) with mandatory pompador, sideburns and stereotypical Elvis sunglasses ONLY the sunglasses have the plastic nose and bushy mustache and eyebrows as found on the classic Groucho Marx novelty glasses. (But I'm open to other suggestions.)
The forums I participate in have avatar size restrictions varying from 32x32 to 120x120. I can resize a larger image myself, but I'd like to be sure the avatar looks great whether it's large or small. Also, animated GIFs are disallowed by most, but I wouldn't mind having a fun, animated one for those sites that allow it.
IMPORTANT NOTES regarding The Perfect Mai Tai Recipe:
1. Like all REALLY good drink recipes, it calls for very specific brands of liquor, some of which may be difficult to obtain via customary outlets (liquor/grocery stores).
2. The recipe is approx. 80% alcohol (but does not have a strong alcohol taste) - it WILL intoxicate you... it SHOULD make you popular... it MAY EVEN get you laid.
Thankya... thankyaveramuch.
Fine print legalese: Before the bartender (hereafeter referred to as "I") can send the artist (hereafter referred to as "you") The Perfect Mai Tai Recipe (hereafter referred to as "the recipe"), you must swear a solemn oath never to reveal the recipe with anyone else, living or dead, real or fictitious (even if they resemble any real person living or dead.) This solemn oath must be sworn before Jah, Buddha, Wakan Tanka, Zeus, Jupiter, Thor, Tiki, God, Yahwe, Jehovah, Huitzilopochtli, Allah and/or any other deities, sacred cows, etc., real or imagined, whether you believe in them or not. You must also promise and hope to die, stick a needle in your eye. You further understand that breaking this solemn oath will almost certainly cause you to be struck down by the righteous lightning of the aforementioned wrathful gods, deities, etc. (Whether you believe in them or not.) I am not responsible for shitty results due to non-adherence to the strict ingredient requirements as explicitly stated in the recipe.
wesmorris 05-27-04, 04:09 PM Hey, have you looked here (http://www.bubbahotep.com/main.html)?
Dreamwalker 05-27-04, 04:19 PM Well, to get back to the original idea of this thread.
Here is one of my avatars. http://www.uploadimages.net/images/873432slow_chaos.gif
donīt use it anymore because teri disliked it because it moves :(
Alas, I have made it slower, perhaps itīs all right now?
ElvisIncognito 05-27-04, 04:39 PM Hey, have you looked here (http://www.bubbahotep.com/main.html)?Great movie, but that was Bruce Campbell Incognito (AS Elvis)...
I guess I could use a normal pic of Bruce Campbell, but I don't don't know how many people would get it... and I'm not sure it's really all that funny anyway. But Elvis in Groucho glasses, why that's just a HOOT! :D
invert_nexus 05-27-04, 05:03 PM I think Greywolf wants Spurious to make him a neato avatar. Why don't you just ask him? He seems to have a talent for it.
ElvisIncognito 05-27-04, 05:12 PM He seems to have a talent for it.He does indeed. I'm hoping he also has an appreciation for tropical libations...
spuriousmonkey 05-28-04, 01:52 AM I think Greywolf wants Spurious to make him a neato avatar. Why don't you just ask him? He seems to have a talent for it.
I did already...the result is a grey wolf.
Starthane Xyzth 05-28-04, 06:56 AM Maybe this a bit self-indulgent to ask, but can anyone devise an avatar which really fits with my username? :bugeye:
By the way, folks: fascinating thread! :D
I really wanted to have daffy duck as my avatar - I guess it's probably not allowed, is it? (insert sad face here)
Cheerin'
Teri
He does indeed. I'm hoping he also has an appreciation for tropical libations...
Did you see the "just for you" avatar I made on the first page? It is supposed to be elvis but it's hard to work 40 x 40 and have a recognizable face. I can doctor that if it's close enough to suit you.
invert_nexus 05-28-04, 05:54 PM Teri,
Why not? I don't think there are any copyright police here. I went around with a cartman ninja avatar for awhile. I have seen a few stewie's from family guy. My advice. Find a good pic, resize it, and go for it.
Thanks Invert N,
I have a picture that I've pasted on to a word doc but I don't know where to go from there. I'll work something out I'm sure.
Thank

nah, ill stick with mine, which i made in ms paint
Daffy Teri doesn't know how to do anything - really feeling stupid here. I want that first one.
Dreamwalker 05-31-04, 07:22 AM Then, I would copy the image address and insert it in the user control panel where you can change your avatar. Itīs quite easy.

Avatar competition - "Sciforum Composition Intriguely Reflecting Undeveloped Minds" aka SCIRUM, only rule: #maintain 40x40 and NO animation
I was going to submit mine which I made using a scanner and some simple 90 degree rotation. It is an illusion which changes the visual impression of the same drawing dramatically; an old hag vs a princess, but I noticed you stipulated "No Antimation".
Just curious why the no antimation request in that many avatars here are antimated?
Thanks.
Spuriousmonkey,
I found an avatar that is ok, actually resembles me a bit, but can you make one that fits. Maybe eyes wide open?

Because at that time the owner of the forum made his wish clear that he rather not see any animation in avatars. Especially ones that would make him epileptic. Then he changed his mind. Or I misread his mind since the beginning.
