Anybody know ACAD?

Sometimes when I try to union parts or subtract parts, I get these errors:
New ef_int outside edge
Inconsistent information in vertex and coedge attributes
Inconsistent edge-face relationships

This has never happened to me before. I used to be able to union or subtract anything no matter what the shape or angle.

In this case, it is a simple 3D octagon with a thickness the same length as each side.

I am trying to fit it into a hole in a of a rectangle with the exact same thickness.

It is like those bocks you give kids to. There is a box, and they have to fit the right block into the right hole. Well I fitted my octagon shaped block into the octagon shaped hole. Tried to union it, and it didn't work.

Furthermore, I had an octagon shaped block. I stuck it in into a bother block. I tried to subtract it to make an octagon shaped hole, but it didn't work.

I've been at this for day, and nothing seems to be working.

Most of my work is usually theoretical and so physical design isn't needed, but I've been meaning to learn AutoCad for a while now. I figure it shouldn't be too much more difficult than the PCB layout software I use now. Does anyone have any recommmedations for books or tutorials for learning AutoCad?

If I'm getting the jist of what you are saying, you are trying to place an object into a hole which is the same size. In the real world you'd have "Tolerance" to consider, or the object wouldn't actually "Fit" into the hole, since it's external Vertex's would clash with the internal Vertex's of the hole.

Perhaps thats where the problem is. I couldn't actually tell you though, since I haven't used Autocad in a while, I gave up on it some time back when I was suppose to be doing schematics on a PI 133Mhz (48Mb) system. It use to be such a resource hog competing for resources with Windows95 and crashing after 5 minutes use (Alot of work had to be done then done again because of those problems back then)

I'm really good at ACAD. No need for books or tuturials. It's real easy to learn.
Here are a few steps.
1. View Menu: Shaed View.
2. Use the green orbital to revolve the screen in 3D.
3. Keep top view as default.
4. Use the Box command under the Draw Menu all the way at the bottom section. You can draw a 3d box.
5. There are buttons for moving, compying, and erasing objects.
6. Use Union, Subtract, and Intersect to combine and cut objects.

Everything here is very useful.
