Can someone help me out with some good information (and perhaps a link or two to forms and/or documents) regarding the Pension reulations and Requirements in Australia?
A friend met a homeless man who is not on Pension (68 years old) and she would like to help him out.

Thanks

you can also try the dep of youth and comuntity services in SA (state department that deals with helping people out), not sure of the state departments for the other states

I am going to do that on Monday.
I don't know whether he is a Veteran or not, so I will have to find that out, along with his other important details.

Thanks for the websites, they should be useful.

if he is eligiable for a vets pention then he will be fairly well off (my grandmother gets a war widows pention, vet gold card and a part pention and she is better off than i am)

Well, in that case I hope he is.
Apparently he is eligable for Rent Assistance too, so that is good, although it's only $99 a fortnight...It's better than sleeping in the park, though.

That's good, I will look into that as well.

If he's 68 and eligible for an aged pension, not only could he be eligible for rent assistance, but he can also get telephone and electricity subsidies as well I think (as in he gets a bit extra every couple of months to pay for those bills). Also tell him to put his name down for Government housing (eg housing commission units and houses in the city) as advised by Asguard, as I'm pretty sure that is still available in Melbourne.

Yeah, I think I read that on one of the websites. That would be very useful for him.
I will just have to wait to talk to Centrelink on Monday and see what they think.

I will see what he wants to do first, I think. I don't want to put him in a situation he doesn't like just because I want to help him.

tell HIM to ring centrelink because they wont even talk to you about it. The privacy laws wont let them but get him to give them a ring and they should organise a time for him. In vic a centerlink concession card (issed to everyone on benifits and to low income earners) intiles you to concessions on car rego, movie tickets, electricity (not sure about gass, doesnt in SA), doc bills, medicens, heeps more

Plus the state goverment can provide housing (including emergency housing)
