View Full Version : Attachments a no show???
sargentlard 03-29-04, 05:48 PM Is it only me or can anyone else not see attachments. Yours or of other posters. I can see all of mine in the attachments options in Preferences but they fail to appear in threads.
Is this deliberate (part or the evolving design onf Sciforums) or a glitch?
Dr Lou Natic 03-31-04, 07:09 AM Just had the same problem. Worst of all I like drew a picture on paint especially to accompany a post and it just doesn't show up:( Whats the freakin deal?
Dr Lou Natic 04-03-04, 01:24 AM so ahhh... whats the deal?
sargentlard 04-03-04, 01:28 AM No one cares about us Lou or our questions......hug me *opens arms*
SkinWalker 04-03-04, 04:13 PM Yeah... I'm having the same prob! Guess I have to link to it somewhere....
Dr Lou Natic 04-06-04, 08:23 AM What about the 2nd anual mspaint drawing competition :( ?
Dr Lou Natic 04-08-04, 06:09 AM I don't even think this gag is particularly funny anymore. Just fix it plz.
ScRaMbLe 04-08-04, 10:45 AM Just had the same problem in "cryptozoology" psuedoscience
Whats the deal?
certified psycho 04-08-04, 08:08 PM Is this some sort of sick april fools joke.
Stryder 04-09-04, 01:29 PM I would guess it's down to a setting, attachments aren't shown because of bandwidth perhaps. If you house your image somewhere else on the net rather than attaching it then you could probably just place it into the post with HTML IMG tags, since the bandwidth being used will be that of the server you put it on. (Do make sure that your allowed to leech the image before doing that though, as some service providers might stop you from being able to show the image)
Mystech 04-09-04, 02:34 PM Go me, I've got unlimited free hosting with all the perks! My advice to you would be to make friends with a big nerd, but be sure to find out if he runs his own server(s) first.
certified psycho 04-09-04, 04:12 PM let's just hope HE will fix this problem or glitch. Hopefully...................
SwedishFish 04-10-04, 10:22 PM i miss attachments

cool, i might get my very first friends soon!
cosmictraveler 04-12-04, 02:02 PM Yep, I went back to some of my old attachments and found they were removed also. What was strange is that they were still on my attachments that is in my profile area. I can click on them there and they work but they aren't in the threads they were posted in. Very strange, either delete them altogether or let them remain in the original post threads.
Thank you. :)
BMW-Guy 04-18-04, 06:14 PM I'm having the same problem too.........
um, okay, think we can rule-out yet that this is not "just my imagination", but rather a real problem that all the mods should work on getting fix. ;)
ScRaMbLe 04-27-04, 07:19 AM Has there been any announcement on attachments yet? Is it a space problem? Whats going on? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Dr Lou Natic 04-27-04, 08:14 AM Yeah its very odd how nobody says anything about this drastic change.
Its like a really really boring episode of the twilight zone.

Is it really that important?
You can just put the file somewhere else and put a link in.
Rappaccini 04-27-04, 03:22 PM Yeah... if you have access to hosting... which isn't too difficult to gain, I've discovered lately.
Overdose 04-28-04, 09:00 PM I want it back :(
jadedflower 05-02-04, 02:57 PM www.walagata.com
reeeeally good. Except my laptop doesn't let me in anymore... :( strange... I get probs with no other PC.
Stryder 05-02-04, 03:11 PM [EDIT] What I said previous wasn't correct (after running a test) pity :(
Attachments workaround:
Attach your file.
Find the attachmentID number of your attached file. One way is to click the attachment and look in the URL of the attachment window.
You can include image attachments inline in forums with HTML enabled.
In your message, type:
<img = "/attachment.php?attachmentid=[number here]&stc=1">
If this works, you'll see some dancing penguins below:
<img src="/attachment.php?attachmentid=2952&stc=1">
You can link to attachments as long as vbCode is enabled:
[ url="http://www.sciforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=[number here]&stc=1" ]My Attachment[ /url ]
Link to Penguins (http://www.sciforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2952&stc=1)
Would someone like to confirm that the inline image and the link in the previous post work properly?
I've tested in when logged in and logged out and after clearing my cache so I think it's fine, but independent confirmation would be best.
invert_nexus 06-20-04, 08:01 PM As an aside, I've been using the a href to make links. Using the url method coincidentally involves exactly as many keystrokes. Kinda ironic. :D
Thanks for the workaround, Pete. Too bad I just found out that I have web space after all. :p I guess it'll help keep my peasly 10 megs down though...
invert_nexus 06-20-04, 08:02 PM Yes, it's working...
invert_nexus 06-20-04, 08:11 PM Except it doesn't seem to work. Let me try it in here. Do we need the bracets around the number? I tried it before without them.
<img src = "http://www.sciforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2909&stc=1">
There, one with and one without.
invert_nexus 06-20-04, 08:12 PM Hmm, nothing. It didn't print anything within the < and >. What am I missing?
Does it need the http://www.sciforums.com/ in front?
Edit: That didn't seem to work either.
Pete,
Thanks. I'll be trying this. Although loss of attachments actually did well bey me. I was forced to set up another web site to post my work. :D
Another question. How do you write an expression like follows and have it make the link vs actually posting the link?
Link to Penguins
invert_nexus 06-20-04, 08:17 PM I got it, you need img src = not just img.
Pete,
How do you write an expression and have it make the link vs actually posting the link?
[ url=http://www.sciforums.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#url ]URL Hyperlinking[ /url ]
URL Hyperlinking (http://www.sciforums.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#url)
Cheers!
Pete

Thanks.
PS: Your link "Attachments Workaround" did the job in UniKEF Analysis. I was able to revive all the attachments.
