As a preface, I consider myself an agnostic. I cannot say for a certainty either way if I think there is or is not a God. I find arguments on both sides to have degrees of relevancy. I understand the theistic argument of how the universe came to be here. What I don't understand yet is what atheists think of this question.

I am not the best poster here, I'm not good at keeping up on threads I open, so if I don't post any follow ups, don't take it wrong.

Also, I wasn't entirely sure which sub forums to post this in, feel free to relocate appropriately.

Hmm... good point. But what about all the evidence for the big bang?

Actually, that answer doesn't really sound any better than a theists answer of 'maye God has always existed'.

So people really think some supernatural entity that had nothing better to do, by the way where did that entity come from, just got up one day and said I'll make me a universe and poof there was this universe. That really is very hard to digest even with "faith" thrown in for good measure.

Now I do not claim to know AS YET as to exactly how this universe came into existence but with the aid of some very intelligent scientists that are daily trying to discover how things came into existence myself and others will find out we hope. So far there has been NO facts presented that a supernatural entity made this universe other than humans saying it did with ONE BOOK that humans wrote.

The Universe has always existed in some form or another. But that doesn't mean that highly intelligent aliens couldn't construct a planet with millions of species and call themselves gods.

Any ADVANCED form of beings wouldn't do that for their minds would be so far ahead of bullshit like that they would be traveling the universe instead. They would have no need to act out as "gods" for wisdom shows that isn't necessary when your trying to ADVANCE a society.

Cosmic, are all 29,300 of your posts an indication of your inability to comprehend what you read?

I did not say I thought

All I am asking, is how atheists think the universe got here. I am asking this because I want to see if it holds anymore relevancy than a theists version. It's a simple inquiry see. I understand that there are scientists looking into this question, and doing so in a much more effective way than theists.

One book? So your assuming that every single theist on this planet believes in the bible. Have you ever heard of Hindus? Buddhists? Pagans? Etc? Not every person who believes in a God or gods ascribes to the bible.

If you're an atheist, good for you! But if you can't answer the OP, then go troll somewhere else.

    Good day sir!

Doesn't contradict the notion that something was always here. Maybe it's all cyclical.

Right, but that doesn't seem to be any better of an argument that there has always been a God. So it's not any better than a theist claiming that God has always been...

Same question I posed to Spider: How is that any better of an argument than theists claim about how god came to be or where he came from?

I find it interesting that humans can conceive of a word for 'without beginning and without end' and give it the name of 'infinity' even as we consider that we could never actually envision an immeasurable scale.

No surprise then that we cannot accept that the universe has always been 'here'.

We are a finite species embedded in the infinite and so we presume that all things must have a beginning and an ending.

That's my current opinion which I reserve the right to change if and when new evidence presents.

From the standpoint of eternalness, it's the same as the concept of God, with the exception that it's scientifically viable. It doesn't have to be intelligent, which is a quality that simple things lack.

Because I'm stating that I don't know as yet how the universe started but my thinking is that there was no god that created it because I do not believe in supernatural beings but others do, that's a mental problem some people have.

Cosmic, don't you think that claiming they all have a mental problem reduces you to the same level as a theist who claims you are "lost"?

But I admit that I don't know how the universe started as yet while others think they know everything and claim god did it all. That, to me, seems that I don't have a problem for I admit I do not yet understand how the universe came to be but others believe in supernatural beings which are a mental problem for none have been found to exist.

And yet, you seem to be as sure that they have a mental problem as they are sure that they have an answer...

If there were an atheist bible i guess we'd have a single answer to that question.
As things actually stand, we all have different amounts of cosmological knowledge from Bonzo to Hawking.
In fact, nobody knows, probably nobody will ever know, but some people's speculation is more relevant than others'; some people's theories are backed up by more data than others'.

Not believing a story that's based on no scientific data doesn't mean we all share an alternate story. Big Bang is a working hypothesis that accords with observations and calculations made to date; subject to change if/when better information becomes available.

Well the infinite volume of space needs no explanation, because by default there is infinite distance in every direction. Infinite volume was not created, it is inevitable. It is impossible NOT to have infinite volume.

So the question reduces to where did the expanding object the universe come from. Like all objects, they come from their core. So, the moon came from the earth, the earth came from the sun, the sun came from the black hole in our galaxy, and our universe came from its core , along with all the other universes that also orbit that core.

    Next!!
