So, i have to write a historically-based paper on a Native American medicine woman. We got assigned the occupation. I like it, but really, I don't want to go all cliche with the 'white man killing everyone' kind of theme. Yes, it's sadly true and all but...everyone would write about that. It has to be set in the 1740's though, so not much else is going on for the Native Noth American besides their decline. So does anyone have any ideas? I need to write a narrative, a short story, and a biography.
narritave could be about the act of gathering ingredients. short story- she could find a sick child from another tribe, nurses it back to health, conflict with other tribe, etc. leave Whitey out of it altogether, or maybe just an indirect source of illness, if you don't want to deal with sticky social issues.
Do you think that nothing else was going on in the lives of the indigenous people at that time? You think the only thing they though about/did had to do with their "rapid decline"? Please...don't insult their culture. FK
Why not study how the medicine woman came to ne, not medicine man? Why were the women more adapt at healing than men? What about what they used and when. Did they interact with other tribes that were around them? There's many things to learn before you start to tell a story about them. Then again you could fictionalize the story and talk about how great they were and their mystical powers that they used. That's if you don't want to study up on them before writing about them. here's a couple of sites that talk about them: http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://www.xploreheartlinks.com/medicinewomen.htm&e=10313 http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&star...7/us317918/us53382/us266166/us547453/&e=10313
