Armless man caught speeding in NZ

The man was well above the legal speed limit when he was stopped

A man with no arms has been caught speeding at 121 km/h (75 mph), according to police in New Zealand.

The driver, who used one foot to steer and another to operate the pedals, told officers he was born with no arms but had been driving for years.

The 32-year-old had passengers in the car when he was stopped on a highway near Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty area.

Police fined the unemployed man NZ$170 (£60) and banned him from driving, local media reported.

    'Shocked officer'

The driver, whose name has not been published, was going well over the speed limit of 100 km/h (60 mph) when he was stopped by police on Thursday.

Senior Constable Brent Gray approached the driver's window, saw a foot on the dashboard and noticed the seat was reclined.

Mr Gray told colleagues he thought the man had an "attitude", then noticed the driver had no arms.

"He (Mr Gray) was pretty shocked by that, as you would be," acting Senior Sgt Deirdre Lack was quoted as telling local newspaper the Bay of Plenty Times.

The driver told police he had never held a driving licence.

Ms Lack said the motorist had been a danger to fellow drivers because he was breaking the limit.

"Obviously, driving at a speed like that, arms or not, you're just waiting for an accident," she said.

    ************

No licence, no arms, & speeding well above the speed limit, i know he is handicapped but i did not know his brain was too, i would assume he lost his arms in a driving accident judging by his contempt for pedestrians & other car users.

It would be interesting to know just how long he got away with driving with no arms, it took the police to catch him speeding, to finally catch him, what the average kiwi did not notice a armless man driving a car, for how long months, years.

This is one loony deserved to be nabbed by the LONG ARMS OF THE LAW..

Im puzzled here he uses one foot to drive with, one foot to operate the clutch & breaks with, what about the gear stick, the horn, his indicators.

Well i suppose he could use his nose for the horn, his knees for the indicators, but the gear stick thats the one that is hardest to figure?

What about road rage too, he cant make a fist & wave it a annoying motorist, maybe he puts his bumb out the window or something, the whole thing is like something out of the xfiles.

    Asguard,
"The driver told police he had never held a driving licence."

I doubt very much someone with out a licence, would have a car specially made for him, i believe he has some sort of death wish, or he is a speed junky, and he wont be happy until he takes, a few pedestrians or motorists with him.

I missed out the accelarator, this guy must be a real contortionist, 1 foot operating the clutch, breaks & accelarator, 1 foot steering, maybe his knees for the gearstick, his nose, or a hard on for the horn, his mouth for the indicators, he must have been quite a site driving around in newzealand, just how long exactly is anyones guess, kiwi's dont seem very observant.
