Has anyone here ever played arimaa? I highly reccomend it if you haven't. It is a game designed to be difficult for computers by making a ridiculously high number of possible moves. It was designed as a challenge to programmers working on artificial intellegence, but I find it to be a very fun game all around. Me and a friend at school have started playing it at lunch.

    the official site.

I watched the (lengthy) tutorial on how to play. Fairly bizarre.

It looks like it would take ages before anybody wins.

Well, a game is about half an hour average, although I had an hour and a half one once (it would have sucked to be the loser

). Once you get used to the rules, it is pretty easy. Here is my summary of the rules: Heirarchy (strong to weak): elephant, camel, horse, dog, cat, bunny. Higher pieces can push, pull, and freeze (unless the weaker piece is touching another piece from his color). 4 total one-square movements per turn. A push or pull is 2 movements. If a piece is in a trap square and no other piece of the same color is next to it, then it is gone. Bunny to other side wins.

See? That was six sentences. Not that bad. Chess rules are way more bizarre in my opinion. Now the game situations on the other hand, those can get bizarre.

I don't know. I like this better then chess. Chess is more tactical, wheras this game is more strategic. Go, now that is a great game. I can't argue with you there. I just wish I was any good at that game.
