... permanent job/career, hoping to survive (key work here...) for
30 years until you think it's feasible for you to cease working and
maybe, just maybe start enjoying your life ?

I know this is not a rule, and certainly isn't the case for everyone
but it seems that every successful businessmen I've met where I
live got their "start-up" capital doing something illegal temporarily,
such as fraud, a scam or simply selling marijuana. After having the
initial funds necessary to start their business, they all went clean,
    so to speak.

I'm not sure I disagree with the way they "went", but I'd like to
know what others on this board think of this. Also, for those of
you who have or wish to have children someday, will you explain
to your children that no matter how gifted they are, their lives
will consist of 8 hours of work for the remainder of their "good"
years, or will you shrug it off and simply say something like 'this
is how the world works' ?

Would you encourage them to take the "necessary" measures
to appropriate themselves the start-up capital they would need
    to start a business ?

    Hot hot hot! Tackle away

I would, and have, told my children, and grandchildren, to do whatever it takes to enjoy life to it's fullest, by any means they wish, as long as it doesn't harm others, because I intend to spend their inheritance. No one gave me anything, first car, first house, first whatever. I went to work at the age of 14 so that I could have the things I wanted without relying on anyone else to hand them to me. This was probably due to the fact that my family could not afford to get by without my help, and certainly could not afford to give these things to me. The result, as you may have noticed, was to make me an independent and opinionated individual.

I've decided that working 30-40 hours a week for the next 30 odd years is not for me

    there's a saying that goes:

'if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life'

is that true or pure bs? I'm just heading out to university next year so I'm not looking forward to 30 years of working!

solidus, if you put energy into anything in your life make sure your are putting it into your work. That is what being honest is all about.
