A little career related question here; are you an accountant? are you an analyst? Do you make a good salary (specify or approximate please)? Is it a satisfactory job? I heard someone say accounting is a lonely job.

If you are happy manipulating figures and filling in forms for clients for the best part of your life then consider it by all means. Accountants can make pretty decent livings and the clever and shrewd ones can get rich.

It's not that simple anymore. Accountants are becoming much more involved in many business activities. In Canada, we even have a designation called "Certified Management Accountant". Accounting is becoming more blend with management and marketing....

Accountants deal not only with figures but also with clients' personal data.

Should that personal data get out into the wild both your business and your ass are toast.

Suddenly, crunching numbers isn't so boring.

Accountancy is boring, boring, boring! Even when running my own business, I found that working out how much profit I was making was the most boring part of the job.

When I was running a shop in a business area of London, as I began to learn what jobs my customers did, I discovered that accountants were boring, boring, boring!

What I noticed by contrast was that people engaged with some aspect of property (surveying, planning, insurance, letting, etc) very often tended to be rather interesting characters, insightful in their observations, rounded in their personalities.

I simply report the above as observations, probably not based on a statistically significant sample -- but I became increasing struck, over a period of years, by how far the reputation that accountants were boring people doing a boring job was well-founded.

If you bring a first class knowledge of statistical analysis to such aspects of accountancy as the preparation of actuarial tables, you can earn very good money -- but it's still boring!

Aaanyways....

Accounting is not boring. It just has a mechanical aspect of it- that is the bookeeping one. You can be an accountant and look at business financial statemenst and survive by buying business that are failing and fixing them, just because you know what you are doing!! That's not boring, is it? ;)

Even if accounting can somehow be made interesting, keep in mind that it's a red flag to women, due to that boring reputation. So your choices for women may be narrowed.

I would not wish to deny for a moment that a knowledge of accountancy is of the greatest assistance in running a business. I think it is probably sometimes true that a business can be turned round simply by the application of management accounting tools because the owner has just not figured out which of its activities make money and which lose money. It would be satisfying and rewarding to accomplish that turnaround. But the task itself would actually be quite boring!!!

I think the interesting part of turning round a business would be in better man management, product innovation, more imaginative marketing, a better ability to understand customer psychology . . . and all the other non-accounting aspects.

You didn't say she was pretty. Plenty of ugly actresses around. Unless she is in porn... :)

Back to topic, a good accountant can make or break for a company. With all those accounting tricks a company can easily avoid paying taxes although still profitable. But no accountant is talking about his job, because....

Analysts also make good money, although there can be a conflict of interest in their job. My bet is that being an analyst is easier than being an accountant....
