I wish it was just something in the water. That was just one link, it is happening nationwide. Some of the European companies involved are notorious polluters.

You’re post is rather vague. What do you want to discuss?
    Conservation? Pollution? Hydraulic despotism? Retardation?

    :m: Peace.

    clarififcation

Opps sorry I thought this was pretty much public knowledge by now.

A great many local water utilities In this country are privately owned, no problem with that, but in the past few years many of them have been bought up by large american corporations.

Those Corporation and many smaller water utilities have recently been sold to even bigger Foreign corporations. Now we have 10% of our local water and distribution systems owned by foreign companies. Several of the foreign companies are known polluters.

Among them are RWE -German, Vivendi Universal, Suez Lyonnaize-French. They are currently operating in 27 states, and are in the cities of Atlanta, Milwaukee, and Washington DC to name a few.

Do we really want that happening?? What else will we sell??

With the recent downturn in the economy most state and local governments are desperate for funds. In Arizona the state legislature is considering selling the state prisons, 30,000 prisoners included, to private companies. They are also looking into selling the dormitories at the state universities. The students would then rent their dorm rooms from the new owner.

I have nothing against some privitization, but how much is too much?? And what happens when those companies turn out to be foreign companies of the Enron mentality?

As a simple example of what could turn out to be a complex nationwide problem I offer this:

A few years ago Pima county Arizona sold the county jail to raise funds. The county leases back the jail as they, of course, still need a jail. Now the jail is overcrowded and needs to be expanded. It is also is in need of repairs. The new landlord is trying to maneuver his way out of the deal and is threatening to file bankruptcy.

Extrapolate that to a nation wide scenario and we will be looking at serious consequences which will take generations to resolve.

Sorry about the vague post. I had cataract surgery last week and with my vision impaired I tried to wing it with a simple post and a couple of links with the info.

This is very interesting news, justiceusa. Thanks for the post. You just reminded me that my water purifier needs a new filter.

The USA has been exporting it's corporate greed for years. If Thames looked likely to make lots of dosh from this deal you can bet US investers will be buying shares as fast as they can. In my opinion Corporations like Thames are global entities their postal address matters not.

RE "what else will we sell

I would be in favor of selling some politicians into slavery in a third world country.
