View Full Version : Architecture/Engineering/Mechanics Forum
Prince_James 03-23-07, 12:32 AM As we all ready have biology, chemistry, physics/math, computer science, et cetera, et cetera, we ought to also have a forum dedicated to the discussion of Architecture, Engineering, and Mechanics.
All in favour, vote yea.
All opposed, vote nay.
invert_nexus 03-23-07, 12:40 AM Sure, if there's enough support for it. The linguistics forum definitely spurred linguistic content. Perhaps this would do the same.
Plazma Inferno! 03-23-07, 04:32 AM I think it's good idea.
Let's see what members will say in the poll.
spuriousmonkey 03-23-07, 04:49 AM Are architecture and engineering always used in the same breath? It's the first time i see them categorized together.
Prince_James 03-23-07, 07:53 AM They are somewhat related disciplines.
spuriousmonkey 03-23-07, 07:54 AM So are art and architecture.
Nikelodeon 03-23-07, 07:59 AM I always think of architecture as more of an art, where as 'civil engineering' to do with the actual building processes.
spuriousmonkey 03-23-07, 08:02 AM I always thought that architects were part of the illuminati conspiracy to make people depressed in order to make them watch more TV and to enslave them with the subliminal messages aired on television.
For instance:

one_raven 03-23-07, 08:14 AM *sigh*
What's on TV?
invert_nexus 03-23-07, 08:18 AM Architecture requires engineering. Otherwise the buildings wouldn't be very stable.
I think that the three disiciplines are close enough together to warrant a single forum.
Yes, architecture also smears into art, but you're thinking of the facade and not the structural considerations.
spuriousmonkey 03-23-07, 08:30 AM What about a Design/architecture forum. Maybe it would be more interesting to get the artistic types than the engineers.
Design might get people like Mr anonymous.
darksidZz 03-23-07, 09:14 AM Can we have an area for dating yet :(

For a second I thought you were joking.
Plazma Inferno! 03-23-07, 09:21 AM I think, both art and engineering are important parts of architecture. We just have to figure out a proper name.
It could be Architecture/Engineering or Architecture only, with some descriptive elements in subline: design, history of architecture, construction engineering, etc.
I would love to hear your suggestions about this.
one_raven 03-23-07, 09:26 AM Forum 1: Architecture/Civil Engineering
Forum 2: Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering
Nikelodeon 03-23-07, 09:28 AM I dont see a problem with PJs' "Architecture, Engineering & Mechanics"
one_raven 03-23-07, 09:30 AM The problem is that Mechanical Engineering is only superficially related to Architecture.
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering are closely related and cover a lot of ground.
Same goes for Architecture and Civil Engineering.
Nikelodeon 03-23-07, 09:43 AM Yeah but do you really need two forums? Whats wrong with a generic one.
one_raven 03-23-07, 09:48 AM What's wrong with having two?
It doesn't cost any more, and it keeps things better organized.
The whole point of having multiple subforums is to keep related ideas together, isn't it?
If not, why not just post all architecture threads dealing with artistic style in the Art & Culture subforum.
Why have seperate Politics and World Events subforums?
The fact that Mechanical Engineering is only superficially related to Architecture is reason enough to have two, I think.
spuriousmonkey 03-23-07, 10:04 AM yep.
I certainly don't see the obvious connection between the two.
Prince_James 03-26-07, 10:41 PM I am extremely well pleased that an Architecture and Engineering forum has been created.
