The explosion of mud volcanoes is fueled by abiogenic hydrocarbons.
"Petroleum is the product of a distillation from great depth and issues from the primitive rocks beneath which the forces of all volcanic action lie." -- Alexander Von Humboldt, 1804

I always thought that the rapid burial of water-rich relatively uncompressed sediment, water formed from the diaganetic dehydration of clay minerals and changes in water pressure/fault permeability in response to tectonic activity fueled mud volcanoes.
Molten lava spewed from the mouth of the volcano, reaching estimated heights of 120 feet into the sky.
After the lava erupted, the area surrounding the volcano was inundated with mud that came from the volcano.
Wait, is it a mud volcano or a magmatic volcano? I smell shoddy reporting.
