I noticed while scrolling back through the thread on mullahs and mullets [with my brand new firefox fasterfox add on] this image in the thread: Moderator note: graphic image follows showing a decapitation. http://rapidshare.com/files/406149099/beheading.jpg Now I notice that moderators have posted in the thread after the image was posted and it was not edited out or warning given as happens with nearly every image I post. Earlier I noticed other images of men hung and women stoned in Iran and I noted then that they too were not edited or warnings given. So, is this a graphic image? What constitutes a graphic image? What are the lines drawn between acceptable and unacceptable images on sciforums? Could moderators clarify on what basis they edit image links?
Not much of an answer I can't offer you much of an answer, S.A.M., because the policy has never been clear to me. Personally, I consider the image, the subject, and the context. Something like the example you provided might have its place in a rational discussion. All too often, though, graphic images are exploited, or flippantly applied. But my own standard has much room for error: one person's exploitation is another's valid point. Then again, it doesn't come up too much in my jurisdiction. If I say, "Don't expect the official policy to make sense," it's not so much that I disagree with it, but, rather, I have only the most vague understanding of what it is in this case.
The image in question was not reported. It is quite possible that it was not noticed. That situation has now been remedied.
