I really liked, I love Kevin Spacey. However, I was very disappointed that the makers chickened out and made it seem lik he was just some nut case. They made it semi-ambiguous at the end, but it leaned far too much towards making him a garden variety Disassociative. I would have enjoyed it more if it had leaned more heavily in the other direction, but I think the makers were afraid oif it coming off as a "sci-fi" movie, and tried to take a "safer" course.
I'll try not to ruin the movie... Personally, I think that he was more than just a psychotic. The same body doesn't have to imply the same conciousness in control.
I watched the movie yesterday and found it pretty good. What I couldn't understand though was the part where Prot showed the doctors at the planetarium where he came from. They were all really impressed about what he knew and I expected at least that they would think again if he is only a nutcase. I found it a little implausible that there was no further reaction to his obviously knowledge of those things. The end however made pretty clear that he was from another planet - how else would you explain that Bess was missing too? In a nutshell it was a nice change to see a movie dealing with this subject without being an action-movie.

I saw it back when it first came out on video two or three years ago. I think the gist of what we're all saying is that it was "flawed." It was absorbing and entertaining right up until the ending, which is true of a lot of movies in this era of stories crafted by marketing committees. A good storyteller can make us feel entertained while he's talking. A great storyteller makes us feel satisfied when he stops.
And God looked upon a once blue planet, now a desert filled with sand from human bones and trash...why give them another chance? When I can make a new planet. But far down inside the planet crust praid thousands for a second chance, but their hopes all went down with a gust of wind from the nearby nuclear explosion. Why give them another chance? and so Mars died and Earth was made, only to to once again as its neighboring planet be turned into dunes of dust.
That's sort of a feature of this board, reviving threads from the days when most people's processors ran less than 500 MHz and their printers still chiseled images onto stone tablets.
Weird. I just saw this movie for the first time on DVD a few days ago. And then Fraggle resurrects a thread from 2001 about it! That's it. From now on, I'm posting only in the Pseudoscience and Parapsychology forums. (Just kidding.)

I didn't think it was worth rushing out to see it when it came out. It got pretty average reviews. But for $0.75 (Australian) at the video store - what the hell.
