Does anybody on this forum come from or know anything about Leeds (the West Yorkshire one)? I'm moving there very soon and I'd like to know where are the nice places to live, and where to avoid. Specifically, I'd like to hear your opinions on Roundhay, Headingley, Beeston and Morley but anything you can tell me will be gratefully received.

I only know of a live record that the rock group The Who made from there called Live At Leeds back in the late 60's.

I had to work in morley for a week a few years ago. It is not the most attractive place in england, but the natives are very friendly. Leeds has got harvey nichols store, so plenty of money around the place. Stunning countryside out of town. Cheap beer.

Headingley is OK. Good few pubs, like the 'Original Oak' and the 'Skyrack'. Avoid Chapel Town, and perhaps Chapel Allerton too. About 15 years ago a mate of mine lived in Chapel Allerton. we were on our way to the boozer, when this woman got mugged for her handbag. I took off after the assailant, and my mate shouted, 'She's a hooker! She keeps all her money in her bra!'. So I stopped chasing the guy, my mate caught up with me and said 'Imagine that guy's face when he opens the bag, and finds two dozen johnnies, KY jelly and kleenex, and no cash!'.

So although I've seen Chapel Allerton listed as an 'up and coming' (it always used to be, fnarr!) area on 'Locatation Location Location' I'd have a good nose around befroe believing the estate agents.

Beeston used to be fairly cheap, lots of Victorian terrace type housing, and OK. Couple of mates have lived there without much incident.
