I think it jumped the shark a good 8 years ago. Couldn't care less, although I might watch the Tibetian monks firerun....
The only reason I know the Olympics are coming is because of the protests Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! lol
Haven't watched it in years, though I did learn today that the torch relay was invented by the Nazis. Isn't it nice we still are having it?
Police-state futility Apropos, in a way. I hear Paris was the spitting image of police-state futility°. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! French former tennis player Arnaud Di Pasquale reacts as he carries an extinguished Beijing Olympics flame in Paris on his way to place the torch in a bus for safety amid pro-Tibet protests. (via NPR)____________________ Notes: ° police-state futility — The audio segment from All Things Considered is worth a listen.
Its more about political mumbo jumbo BS than it is about anything else now. All over the radio is this talk about "Should Bush go to the Olympics, should he go to the opening ceremony?" Why the hell does it have to be about political statements? Its just the Olympics after all!
What was once a sports event now has become a political quagmire of epic proportions. I am sorry that the athletes will have to breathe that polluted air while they are participating in their events. I've heard that over 1 million people have been displaced to make room for the stadiums and housing. Those people now have nothing to call home any longer and are put away in small camps outside where they lived. This event isn't going to go over to well worldwide unless the Chinese do something to try and end their take over of Tibet. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Yep, I care. Besides the athletics I am interested in seeing China present itself, and in seeing how their grand architectural designs pan out. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
To make it interesting, al Qada needs to get a team so we can kick their ass. The Olympics were exciting when they served as a way for us to compete with our enemies (the Soviets) without anyone dying. Now, they're boring.
The Daily Show had a funny bit about the Olympic Torch yesterday, that's about as interesting as the Olymics have been for me.
Getting to see people talking like experts about a sport they hadn't even heard of five minutes before. Getting to watch the camera fixed race after race on the sole athlete from your country, in last place and the drowning commentator trying to think of anything remotely interesting to say to keep the audience and not even mentioning the foriegn winner. Getting to listen to see Australians beating their chests about a sport so trivial, watching paint dry is slightly more exciting. Getting to see the Brazilian Women's Volleyball Team, again. Wouldn't miss it for the world.
No... all they'll do is run towards the busiest section of Olympic Village and blow themselves up. [Pssst... SAM, this is your queue to say something like, "Yeah, that is only if the Olympic Village survives an American bombing..." or something like that] ~String
China is way too massively populated to be dismissed and ignored...Tibetan monks will dissapear into history like dust...China will remain, upon the skulls or not...
I stopped caring a long long time ago. probably since 2000. I don't particularly care about sports. But I do care that the monks are getting all the attention. w00t. Less time for sports on the news.
