The hypocrisy of these GOP lawmakers must be mortifying for their constituents. How can someone actually legislate against something they are actually supportive of behind closed doors? He could of easily ran as an openly gay Democrat and avoided this all together.

Not to be a buzzkill, but are we really supposed to be surprised?

Wow. What timing. Why just yesterday, I posted ....

One day, straight folks everywhere are going to realize that anti-gay ravers come in two flavors: assholes who are externalizing their own internal struggles against homosexual desires (Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Joseph Ratzinger, et al.) and assholes who are attempting to compensate for and/or draw attention away from their own moral shortcomings (David Vitter, Mark Sanford, Vic Toews, et al.).

Of course, nailing a closet gay Republican playing the professional homophobe is getting about as easy (and common) as a drunk missing the urinal. Maybe he could try the line the rabbi used after making twelve hundred obscene phone calls to children, and call it research.

hahahahaa...... another GOP gay-basher busted sucking cock!
    Too funny!

Classic example of GOP -vs- DEM. That's probably why this jerk-off got elected. Branded himself a GOP because the spot was open and used a wedge issue to get elected. He could have just as easily branded himself a DEM an wedged on pro-choice. And we need to remember that.

    Don't vote for any incumbents

You have to wonder what the guys in the club thought of him. Someone must have recognized the Senator and been familiar with his position on the issues.

Roy Ashburn has come out of the closet. Apparently he admitted to local radio show that he's indeed gay. GOP fail.

Why would anyone go through life with this kind of self-loathing?
Of these men, what is the youngest age?

    Regarding the thread title:

We seem to be nearing the point where "Anti-Gay GOP Lawmaker" is close to implying "closeted homosexual."

Which, apart from being hilarious, might actually be productive. After all, the rabble-rousers are going to have a difficult time positioning themselves as strongly anti-gay once doing so becomes a tell-tale sign of rampant homosexuality.

It's a somewhat common thing in the GLBT community to say someone can see Narnia if they're that far in the closet. I suppose a wardrobe isn't a closet, but you get the point.

The congressman explained his votes, including his antigay votes, represented the views of his constituents, not his own. I suppose this is a way of reconcilling the hypocrisy. But the bottom line is, he was a fraud representing himself to be one thing and not the other. But I fail to see how this makes him different from most other Republican elected officials.

I don't get it, I thought the GOP was all about getting government out of peoples faces, don't they see the hypocrisy of wanting government to get into peoples faces about their sexual preferences?

Hypocrisy is core to Republicans. They want states rights, except when there is a Terri Schiavo and abortion issues. They are against activist judges on the courts except when the judges support their ongoing positions like giving them elections (george II in 2000) and allowing corporations to donate without limit to campaigns. Republicans/conservatives are the party of hypocrisy.

Seriously. Long story short, because my Lunesta is kicking in and I develop amnesia and get loopy. . .

    Where was I???

Oh, yeah. On Saturday I asked my father if he thought it was a bit odd that there are so many closeted Republicans. He was all like, "What are you talking about son?" And I had to elaborate with facts that are now buried under a layer of prescrption meds (I'll remember tomorrow). Anyhoo, I said something to the effect, "Look, Pops, any day now there will be some republican scandal involving one of their members coming out. It happens almost yearly."

Well, it couldn't have happened at a better time. I can't wait to see him this Thursday over dinner.
