That cross symbol has always been a sun and good luck symbol, and also represents the turning of the seasons and time. It was used by the NAZIs, but never represented specifically those ideals.

The eagle banner has represented "empire" for more than 2,000 years. The eagle banner was used by Rome and by NAZI Germany to represent thei soaring ambitions of empire and supposedly noble purpose. First Rome, then NAZI Germany, now the USA.

It is the common thread of the desire for such empire that is scary, and that is what the symbol represents in this thread and in the examples shown.

The cross, however, only spoke for what you might call "evil" for a few years; for the rest of its history, it has been quite a positive symbol.

I once read in a magazine about how the swastika came around. I just did a quick search on it. Now about the Nazi symbol:

The right-handed Swastika is associated with the goddess Kali-Maya (the mother of Buddha, normally associated with the Moon)

The left-handed Swastika is associated with Ganesha (elephant-headed God, associated with the Sun)
