Ok, so a week or so ago, I started a thread asking for movie recommends. Tonight I watched Blood Diamond (Thanks Challenger78).

Great flick. It really opened my eyes to some of the conditions going on in Africa, although I do understand the movie is a bit dated. Now I have been surfing around wikipedia getting the real story. What I love the most is now I have an excuse to not buy my girlfriend a diamond:p!

Anyway, great movie. What are some of your thoughts on it?

I thought that movie was GREAT! If you liked that one, I suggest to watch this one, if you haven't already.

Anytime, That movie thread gave me some pointers too.
I think the whole change on behalf of the trader is kind typical, but hey, it gives it some hope rather than the doom and gloom. The gritty journalist attitude also shows us some of the realities on the ground.

Problem is, these movies come sometimes too late.

You should also try Rabbit Proof Fence (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252444/)

You do know there are many other countries where diamonds are mined, just not as abundatly as in SA.

OOhh... Rabbit proof fence sounds great!

I agree though Challenger that all too often these movies come too late. But better late than never. It kind of inspired me to learn more about what is going on in Africa.

Tonight I'm going to watch Lord of War. It supposed to be about an arms dealer in Africa.

Be prepeared for another Nicholas Cage mumblethon.
After the films mentioned above, this isn't in the same class.

If you like thought-provoking and research-inspiring drama, why not try Band Of Brothers?
Great, accurate WW2 tv series. Most Blockbusters stores carry the boxset to rent.

Just a thought...!
