I'll admit that I don't know the details about this particular incident or the events that preceded it. I won't celebrate nor will I lament his death. Another soldier in another skirmish. It's a shame.
Great point String, could it be a combination of, the Iraqis getting tired of having more of their people killed by 100 to 1, by foreign terrorist fighter than Americans, and the realization the fastest way to peace is to stop the killing. As every moslem on the forum keeps wanting to point out Iraq was a secular state under Saddam, and the foreign fighter are not fighting to re-establish a secular state they are fighting to impose a Theocracy on Iraq. Now maybe the Palestinians could take a lesson.

Best I can tell their motivations are because they hate Jews and Christians because the Qur'an tells them Jews and Christians are the enemy, and they want to go to Paradise and the only sure way to do that is to die in Jihad. And the goal of Jihad is to spread the rule of Islam throughout the world. Not all Muslims use terror as a tactic, but all Muslims share the same goals.
