Haven't we been through this already ?

I guess because the US economy is in decline, now is the right time to push even more burden on it.

been there, done that.

So far it's just rhetoric. I hope. I don't want El nino to bring me a Nuclear winter.

A majority don't.

Arms races are old and irrelevent. The focus now is on space and information. I think the next 'arms race' will be a 'cyber terrorism' race, who can make the most advances in cracking enemy information systems while securing their own. Russia, North Korea and China have actually made some pretty good headway in this area.

Despite Putin's rhetoric I doubt anything resembling a flat-out arms race will happen. The US spends about seven times what Russia does annually on defense, and has been widening its lead on the technology side of the house since the fall of the Soviet Union. Russia just isn't in a competitive position, and I'm sure their leadership is aware of that.

Another arms race? Great, there goes our quality of life again so we can relive the Reagan era where women join the work force and slave their asses off with nobody left to raise kids. I think this time not only will the wife and kids slave to survive, but the kids will be in the sweatshops as well, especially the way this shitty economy is headed.

Yes. Cyber Arms race. "look at me, I'm more l33t than you." ..
I think it's time the smaller nations banded together against the superpower, maybe the UK can lead the way for once.

Echo3Romeo

Why would the UK, of all nations, head up a showdown with the US? We share more cultural similarities than almost anyone else, along with military research, and intelligence assets. In the bizarro universe where NATO fragments and its remnants align against the US, the UK would be the nation least likely to go along.

huh. Ok, I suppose that make sense then. But I guess we'll have to rely on France then.

The arms race started anew from US intent to put rocket bases and rockets targeted at Russia in poland and radars in Czech Republic.

Precisely. Israel DOES love war. In fact, if Syria makes peace with Israel, that's bad for the Israelis because they no longer have an excuse for all their atrocious acts.

North Korea is a piece of shit country that should be bombed to hell. Or liberated. Fucking kim jong ill piece of shit LET'S HIS OWN PEOPLE DIE! Where is his honor?

S. Korea is a beautiful, prosperious nation and their counterpart suffers. I would whole-heartedly support the US if they went to liberate N. Korea.

I don't buy Putin's claims there. The hardware that would end up going into eastern Europe is stuff for Ground-based Midcourse Defense, which is part of the National Missile Defense; a system with no offensive capability whatsoever.

Also, the ABM interceptors will not be "targeted at Russia" - they'd be there to hit anything coming over the Black Sea from Iran. Anybody who has actually bothered to spend five minutes reading about the scope of GMD knows its mission has nothing to do with Russian weapons that are so numerous they could overwhelm it by three orders of magnitude, even after it is finished. The accusations that it is some kind of threat to Russian security, or even international stability, are absurd. The Russians and everybody else know GMD (or NMD as a whole) can do nothing significant to their arsenal.

Are we? Or are you too chicken to fight for yourselves by yourselves? Too late to test that, I guess. Now, without all the hi-tech US-based tech, what would lil ol' Israel be?

If it ain't broke don't fix it. For our part, the USAF is expected to keep its B-52 fleet active until sometime in the 2040s, which is an unprecedented length of service for military aircraft. Mainly it is due to the B-52's usefulness in providing close air support to friendly ground forces via precision guided munitions like the JDAM. Those things can carry dozens of bombs and loiter over the battlefield for hours, dropping one or two every so often as the trigger pullers on the ground need it.

Oil? Syria has barely any oil.
UN? UN doesn't like the Middle East, you or us.

In '67 you still had foreign aid just not from the Americans. Also, I can't believe we were so close to kicking your asses in 1948 and 1973.

But especially 1948. I heard the only reason the Egyptians quit is because of casualties. But you guys were on the brink of defeat, and had they pushed on a bit further you guys would've lost.

Ah, whatever, we'll see who wins in the end.

thing is with Russia, we have so many nationalities including Israeli's in our country, we even have Jewish Autonomous Region. So really going all the way for the wish to make a destruction of another country a reality, is not worth it at all. The main reason arms are sold to anyone is because of money and only after that does the whole political shaping who gets of what more, comes next.
