I would like to believe that I would never have started such a war against SpuriousMonkey if he hadn't actually provoked me. It's hard to see some of the things that I said as justified, and I was very angry because he constantly deflected the subject, even on the thread that he named after the HIV/AIDS controversy. I tried to be very reasonable when this started and I don't think that anyone needed to take the subject "seriously", just leave messages up that fit a minimal "benefit of the doubt" standard. Instead, someone chose to be crazy and abusive.
The behavior of the father of HIV theory, Robert Gallo, as recorded by several newspapers, the records of the United States Congress, court records from Australia, eyewitnesses and victims, has been so bad that it becomes relevant to whether or not he actually discovered anything. Maybe there have been instances in history in which such blatant lies and inaccuracies were accepted as science, even when the scientists knew of really egregious examples of misbehavior on the part of the promoters, but it's hard to think of any. SpuriousMonkey seemed to me to be using every trick in the book to prevent a real discussion of the AIDS/HIV paradigm from occurring here, and if the theory under discussion is a legitimate theory in the first place, this kind of behavior isn't necessary. It indicates a weak belief in the theory that is based much more on "everyone knows this" and much less on any sure knowledge of the facts behind it.
Some way or another, AIDS is a real health crisis. I can imagine that some parties have a vested interest in creating a high degree of information loss in the DNA of certain human populations, but it's easier to imagine that it's just plain greed, with AIDS organizations being able to share in billions of dollars that no one bothers to track and drug companies being able to make cheap pills that they sell for huge money. Come on, it seriously can't be any more difficult to synthesize azidothymidine than it is to synthesize ibuprofen.
This is a subject that can be discussed in a civilized manner if whoever moderates this forum allows it. That is my request, to allow this discussion to proceed in a civilized manner.
