Street protests aren't all. I wrote this letter to my representatives a month ago, modified as appropriate for House or Senate. I got the usual canned responses, but I keep writing anyway. I am interested in other ideas for letters, especially that may provoke an intern to actually pass it on to the boss.

For other teleprotest ideas, check out

As your constituent, I ask that you re-evaluate the present direction of United States foreign policy. As our government continues to escalate assymetrical warfare, Americans are facing a bloating government, decreased security, a looming energy crisis, deficit, and further economic slide impacting all but the corporations who wield excessive and antidemocratic power in Washington.

You have sworn to protect our Constitution and way of life from enemies foreign and domestic.

The continuing hardening of our foreign relations will inevitably result in the loss of many thousands of innocent lives. Perceived American arrogance will result in a loss of American credibility that will have unpredictable negative consequences. The public is witnessing, and you are privy to, intimidation and bribery of foreign governments, and the planned invasion and occupation of another country (Iraq) that has not attacked us. We are witnessing a trend toward political repression at home, and blatant government-sponsored corporate exploitation abroad.

Please uphold your duty as my Congressman, and resist the ill-conceived initiatives that reflect the will of powerful special interests, and not the interests of the American people.

I urge you to oppose these destructive tendencies in this Congress and Administration. I urge you to stay informed, and encourage open dialog on the Middle East, specifically on the sources of desperation which we directly influence, that continue to breed terrorism.

Our country has been shocked, and is stumbling badly. You and your colleagues must be honest about this, and must help us find our just footing again. I request that you to act constitutionally as a true servant of the people.

    Thank you for your attention.

Good idea. I was thinking about making a thread for this myself. Now, we can't be sure that writing your reps will be too effective, but I think that politicians have a habit of thinking protesters are hippies or something and ignoring them. Not sure how they can ignore this many protesters, though.

So, how effective do you guys think writing your reps and senators is? Has anyone emailed the President lately? Also, consider emailing the media about concerns that you have.

This is our vioce in the government. If they don't heed our words, they don't win the next election, soft money not withstanding(did I say that right?). The republic at its finest, ecxept for the fact that not enough people do this.

    Dear Mr Barresi

i have met you a few times when i was at heathmont and when you came to give an australian flag to one of my friends at 3rd ringwood scout group. Every time i met you, you say that if there is anything you can do to contact you

well i find there is, REMOVE HOWARD

see he is no longer a fit PM, a PM represents the people of australia but hes not, infact a direct quote from him says that he will ignore the will of the people as iralivent

now i know it must be hard for you to vote against someone you have surported but a rabid dog MUST be put down

if you wish my vote in the next election you will vote for a new PM, costello would be nice or maybe you know someone better but its time for howard to go

i am intending to put this letter up on a website i help run, www.sciforums.com

altho it is run out of canada it has a large group of australian and victorian members

please do what is right for yourself, your electrate, the country and the world and use your vote to remove howard

    More that we can do!

There are many things that people can do without violating laws. You can bombard key news & TV agencies, direct emails to news anchors reminding them on the Journalist’s oath in being objective and not to cover the truth. Or, you can go to the top by asking clarifications, etc.

I have done this and mountains more, I decided to invest my energies in studying our government after I lost loved ones in WTC.

However, for those that are interested, don’t forget about the carnivore software used by FBI and of cause all the other surveillances techniques.

    President George W. Bush (president@whitehouse.gov)
    Senator Charles Schumer (senator@schumer.senate.gov)
    Senator Hillary Clinton (senator@clinton.senate.gov)
FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh (director@fema.gov)
and to your own congressional representatives. To obtain e-mail addresses for your representatives, go to www.senate.gov/contacting/index.cfm and www.house.gov/writerep/.

I have no doubt your opinion is similar on this, Microzoft, but I just wanted to say (to paraphrase a controversial American "patriot"):

If it comes to a police state- I want to confront it, not live in it.

We are in a police state for a very long time. During the last 7 years it is becoming much more difficult to cover it up. I have lost dearly in those days of values and principals, but I have also realized that I must use their tools and chose my grounds intelligently.
The reality is far from anything that Hollywood could ever deliver, enough to make the mafia look like group of innocent cheerleaders.
Any one confronting it in a collision course will not we writing in this forums, I can assure you.
