WASHINGTON, DC—In a historic decision with major implications for the future of U.S. participatory democracy, the Supreme Court ruled 8-1 Monday that the American people are unfit to govern.

The controversial decision, the first of its kind in the 210-year history of U.S. representative government, was, according to Justice David Souter, "a response to the clear, demonstrable incompetence and indifference of the current U.S. citizenry in matters concerning the operation of this nation's government."

As a result of the ruling, the American people will no longer retain the power to choose their own federal, state, and local officials or vote on matters of concern to the public.

A true Onion classic. I guess they're running old stuff because of the holiday.

Sadly, they've changed their online archives to pay only.

The article about the Reagan Pyramid was pretty funny too.

Builders expect the Reagan Pyramid to be ready in time for the Great Communicator's mummification and ascension into the Afterworld upon death. Among the items to be entombed with Reagan are 2,500 MX missiles, a golden chalice of jelly beans, and his beloved servant, George Bush Sr.

The really ironic part about that article would be that the supreme court put Bush into office, so who would they be to talk about being incompitant to govern? hehe.

No, Mystech, the real ironic part is that that is a joke article which depicts an event which actually happened after the creation of the joke. By any count George W. Bush lost the election, the people decided they wanted Gore, as it were. But the Supreme Court halted the recounts, and appointed Bush the winner, defying the will of the people.

Ah, Spymoose, the problem with the endless recounts was that the Dems only wanted votes from registered Democrats to be recounted. Recounting votes from registered Republicans was not acceptable. There was also the problem with the DNC members pulled over while sneaking off into a swamp with a shitload of unpunched ballots and about a dozen vote counting devices, none of which they were authorized to have in their possession by law, and without any valid explanation of what they were doing or where they were going. The recounting of only Dem votes appeared several times in Knight-Ridder press, which I found very surprising since Knight-Ridder tends to be more sympathetic to the Democrat Party.
