Cottontop3000 02-21-06, 11:43 PM Thief or Rogue of some sort. Oh, and as to the why, probably 'cause I thought it was cool to be able to go anywhere and get into anything I wanted to. I don't like rules. Azael 02-22-06, 12:21 AM I usually choose a combination of fighter/mage, or just straight out mage. Only played the baldurs gate series heavily. I choose this combo because it gives me the diversity to do whatever I want, whether killing something, or getting somewhere, or using certain items. I can also buff up the fighter with mage abilities making it a cyclone of death vslayer 02-22-06, 01:26 AM elf. i like to use the bow, with a bit of magic tossed in there too. The Devil Inside 02-22-06, 07:17 AM :D right now ive become a diablo2 addict again. i have a 83rd level necromancer named "Evil-Jzs-4kbeard". he is sweet. spuriousmonkey 02-22-06, 07:32 AM I choose to be a noob. seekeroftheway 02-22-06, 08:26 AM Well, yeah, if you're a good noob you can annoy all the monsters away... I usually choose some sort of preferably martial arts type warrior. Like In baldurs gate II, the monk was the perfect character for me. But, in a lot of cases, that sort of character isn't available, so I go with some sort of spellcaster. When you get to higher levels as a mage, you can shield yourself from weapons, shoot magic attacks back at people, become invisible, open locks, not to mention making fire rain from the sky and raising the dead. They're like Gods. spuriousmonkey 02-22-06, 08:48 AM I'm a lvl 104 combat runescaper. I used to be a miner and smither. then I became a slayer. That raised my combat dramatically from 70 to 100. Then I became a treasure hunter in the barrows. And occasionally i dabbled in crafting, woodcutting, fletching, praying, herblore, fishing, firemaking, agility and cooking. I can do all but farm. There is no honour in farming. Getting my hands dirty with dirt. My hands should get dirty with blood or guts. I'm still a noob though. At the moment I am a might dragon slayer in the dangerous wilderness to collect dragon bones for prayer and dragon hides for crafting. Hide little dragon, my dragon blade is sharp and if you give me trouble I will whip out my whip. (haha...what a nerd post...) Quigly 02-22-06, 10:59 AM In Elder Scrolls Morrowind, I chose to join the thieves guild and my character had a lot of rogue like characteristics. Come to think of it, I like the thieve/rogue/bandit type classes. Sort of like the untameable class who is full of surprises. seekeroftheway 02-23-06, 08:06 PM I think one of the funnest(yes, funnest) guilds in Morrowind was the Morag Tong. Assassins guild, totally legal, honorable, and WAY more secretive than any other guild. To the extent of not even hearing of them for the entire game, and even if you do it's really hard to find them. Cottontop3000 02-23-06, 08:13 PM Have you got them to help you build your own mansion? Varda 02-23-06, 08:17 PM NERDS!! *ahem* sorcerer *ahem* Cottontop3000 02-23-06, 08:20 PM What?! How dare you? Nerds, indeed! riku_124 02-23-06, 08:45 PM i usally use mage albuilites, or a fighter mage combo, in baulders gate im usally the dwarf for BGDA2 love his wepons...... Neildo 02-23-06, 09:43 PM I usually play a thief-mage type. More thief, less mage, just enough to assist and gain an edge over a regular thief. Then there's also a pure mage I like doing. And the most fun was in a MUD where I was a cleric that was a jack of all trades, master of all. ;) - N seekeroftheway 02-23-06, 10:50 PM Have you got them to help you build your own mansion? That's only in the great houses, most of which totally suck. Hlaalu was the best of the three, in my opinion. seekeroftheway 02-23-06, 10:52 PM NERDS!! *ahem* sorcerer *ahem* You can't hit what you can't see. I'll just sneak up on you and plant a poison dart in your back. seekeroftheway 02-23-06, 10:54 PM I usually play a thief-mage type. More thief, less mage, just enough to assist and gain an edge over a regular thief. Then there's also a pure mage I like doing. And the most fun was in a MUD where I was a cleric that was a jack of all trades, master of all. ;) - N I still think the monk from BGIISoA could beat all that. They become immune to nearly ALL magic at higher levels. Well, ok, highEST levels, but still, monks were nearly invulnerable. Cottontop3000 02-23-06, 11:56 PM That's only in the great houses, most of which totally suck. Hlaalu was the best of the three, in my opinion. Your right. Forgot it was the houses. Hlaalu was the only one I played. draqon 02-24-06, 12:06 AM does runescape count as fantasy rpg? anyone played it? Cottontop3000 02-24-06, 12:06 AM Nope. Is it good? draqon 02-24-06, 12:11 AM I enjoyed it: http://www.runescape.com/ sign up and try it, its online java based multiplayer 3D fantasy rpg skill development based game seekeroftheway 02-24-06, 08:27 AM I tried it, it didn't grab me but that's only because I'm not huge on online gaming. I'd rather have social contact with other people in the real world or in a context like this, not a video game. spuriousmonkey 02-24-06, 08:37 AM does runescape count as fantasy rpg? anyone played it? Yup, RSN=spuriousmonk seekeroftheway 02-24-06, 06:11 PM OK, so who here is an Elder Scrolls fan? riku_124 02-24-06, 06:43 PM another good massivly online game is on www.mapleglobal.com i nejoy it, though you can only pick form 4 classes you cna pick your skills, and your skills its fun to play if you have a few hours to kill Bells 02-24-06, 07:06 PM Totem.. Totem.. Totem.. FROSTSHOCK!!! ;) sisyphus__ 02-24-06, 08:46 PM In FFV, my favoriate final fantasy, i think... that and 8.. but in 8 you don't pick your classes.. I liked Selphie. I don't know why. She's hot, and want to get her damn limit final blast them all to hell, kinda stuff. Last boss too. Haven't played in 4ever, got all my shit stolen. Star Ocean is the shit of the cream. So2, that is. Of course Dias is the best character. Rena and ashton (of course, claude) (if you have a better team, let me know how bullshit) Then theres FFV Baulders gate... use the wicked cheat dude. He's ok. I like the girl with her clothes off too. She's hot. Valkrie profile was fun. Tactics? That is the game to name the classes! I like mages of course. Summoners are ok. I didn't beat it. It was too hard. I would have freaking had to level up a shit load to beat this one battle, and I wasn't gonna do that. At least I didn't have the time. I spent forever on ff8 though. That is my most memorial game. I cried. How ... unrealistic. Sartre would laugh at me. Fuck sartre! :) FFV.... I don't remember All my stuff: stolen sisyphus__ 02-24-06, 08:47 PM Then theres the next gen rpgs. ... Lord of the rings for GC, was fun. Of coursse you gotta use the mage in there, and the starting dude. 2 starting chars are best imo. ... Tales of Symphonia is fun. I have a foggy memory, and no life. So! seekeroftheway 02-24-06, 11:54 PM Still think the sorcerer in Baldur's Gate II could kick the crap out of any FF character, sorry. Azael 02-25-06, 08:38 AM Still think the sorcerer in Baldur's Gate II could kick the crap out of any FF character, sorry. Sorc is one of my favs, but a dual class kensai/mage is a rabid killing machine, end of story. The Devil Inside 02-25-06, 08:55 AM OK, so who here is an Elder Scrolls fan? we dont need to have this conversation 3 times do we? The Devil Inside 02-25-06, 08:56 AM hey, does anyone here play diablo 2: lord of destruction? i want some playmates, but i use a cd loader program, and cant play on battlenet. Kunax 02-25-06, 09:09 AM hehe, the apeman has found him self a potensial fishing friend seekeroftheway 02-25-06, 11:06 AM Sorc is one of my favs, but a dual class kensai/mage is a rabid killing machine, end of story. Monk on top level can beat him. Monk on top level can beat ANYONE. They're immune to nearly all magic, and all weapons up to +5. They're fists are +3(ish)weapons, they have stunning fist, and, best of all, they have quiverring palm. seekeroftheway 02-25-06, 11:07 AM we dont need to have this conversation 3 times do we? Sure, why not? sisyphus__ 02-25-06, 05:31 PM Still think the sorcerer in Baldur's Gate II could kick the crap out of any FF character, sorry. you should be sorry, because sorry, but the chars in ff, will beat any baulders gate char. Especially how beefy your chars can get in V anyway. (ffv sisyphus__ 02-25-06, 05:33 PM i forgot i haven't played # II though. I have played one. And the over view sucks, it's way too far back. I may be wrong, but I do doubt it. seekeroftheway 02-26-06, 01:15 AM you should be sorry, because sorry, but the chars in ff, will beat any baulders gate char. Especially how beefy your chars can get in V anyway. (ffv Really? The sorcerer can make himself totally invisible, totally undetectable in any way, he can paralyze people, trap them in other dimensions, or in spheres that cannot be penetrated in any way, he can make himself totally invulnerable, he can summon and control demons that could probaby crush him instantaneously, he can make fire and ice rain from the sky and wreak sheer destruction upon his opponents in countless ways. What do you have to compare? DiamondHearts 02-26-06, 03:05 AM I used to play Runescape, it is ok. Phantasy Star Online is a fun game to. I used to play it when it was in beta testing. My favorite are the SNES RPGs. Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2), and Super Mario RPG. Oh yeah, I am addicted to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. That is the best RPG/Strategy game ever. Azael 02-26-06, 08:58 AM Monk on top level can beat him. Monk on top level can beat ANYONE. They're immune to nearly all magic, and all weapons up to +5. They're fists are +3(ish)weapons, they have stunning fist, and, best of all, they have quiverring palm. I disagree. By the time a monk gets through a kensai/mage's stoneskin, not to mention mirror image and other defenses, a kensai/mage could have cast lower resistance enough for the monk to have zero magic resistance. The +3 attack modifier really means nothing at high levels. On top of this the kensai/mage can summon a swarm of monsters, or simply timestop and run up to the monk and start hacking away. I've killed high level dragons and demons in one timestop alone, it's crazy. And with some lower resistance and greater malison, the monk will fall after one finger of death. I'm currently soloing watchers keep and the ToB expansion with a lvl 12/20 kensai/mage, dual-wielding crom-fayer and the celestial fury. Thac0 is -13 on each arm, and and AC is down to -7 without any buffing spells. With tensers transformation I have 240hp and 6 attacks per round, and various items allow me to cast level 7 spells with a 0 time casting factor. Every group of high level demons in watchers keep, as well as the hordes of fire giants all look helpless in comparison. Quivering palm isn't really that great either, because it seldom works on the enemies you really need it for. seekeroftheway 02-26-06, 10:24 AM On top level, the monk gets his armor class down to negative 10, I very very very rarely missed, and I've had mages cast lower resistance on me before and it didn't seem to do much, even without the magic resistance I usually still saved against most spells. Plus, even if you did hurt me badly, I'm almost three times as fast as any other character in the game, I can't be slowed or hasted, so I can just run away, use lay on hands to heal, then come back and beat you down again. Even then, the sorcerer flat out could take down the kensai. I loved the system the sorcerer was under with spells. He can make himself totally invulnerable, he can reflect magic back at the caster, he can become totally invisible and undetectable, so even if you did cast time stop I could be laughing at you all the way cause you wouldn't be able to hit me anyway. Meanwhile I can summon pit fiends and balor's and crap to come kick the crap out of you, or, if you're bugging me enough, I can just imprison you. Imprison was the best spell in that whole friggin game. You can't save against it, and it's effects are pretty much irrevocable. I just cast it on you and you get poofed into an impenetrable bubble miles below the center of the earth for the rest of eternity. Azael 02-26-06, 05:42 PM With spell immunity to divination and improved invisibility, the sorceror can't touch the kensai/mage. And I think you're missing the point about AC. My level 12/20 kensai mage has a natural AC of -5, with buffs I can get it well below -10. As for not being able to hit you, that is simply not true. even if you were at -15 AC, my char would have a 50% chance of hitting you. With 6 attacks per round, you would go down in one timestop. Just do the math. seekeroftheway 02-26-06, 06:41 PM Even in a video game, you can't put everything on numbers. My Monk's NATURAL armor class is -10. Even then, his dexterity modifier is insanely high, so your chances of hitting him combined with the amount of damage you think you'll do when you actually do hit him make your chances of beating him slim at best. Plus, as a monk, (based on reality, of course)he doesn't rely on his sight or magic to see you, his other senses, as well as his sight, are so adept that he could probably still hear your heartbeat, or sense your energy when you moved. That's an effect they should've had in the game that would've made it more realistic. I suppose with the Sorcerer and your character, we're at a stalemate. We can't see eachother, and we both do freakish amounts of damage. One catch though, pit fiends and balors can still detect you regardless of how much magic you use to hide yourself. I've tried. And I know your awesome power dwarfs that of a demon, but even you would break under sheer numbers. That or I can summon that Djinni and have him make me an ARMY OF BUNNIES to kill you. Azael 02-27-06, 12:39 AM I've tried. And I know your awesome power dwarfs that of a demon, but even you would break under sheer numbers. you. I specifically said groups of demons. All I really need to say is that there was never really a challenging fight while I was soloing the BGII expansion. seekeroftheway 02-27-06, 08:15 AM Fine, I'll make it easy and imprison you before you make a move. There's no saving throws or resistance for imprison. And it's effects are permanent unless someone casts freedom where I imprisoned you. Which I doubt anyone will do. The Devil Inside 02-27-06, 04:03 PM *casts freedom* heh. seekeroftheway 02-27-06, 04:42 PM Gee, thanks. *casts imprison again* Azael 02-28-06, 04:59 AM Fine, I'll make it easy and imprison you before you make a move. There's no saving throws or resistance for imprison. And it's effects are permanent unless someone casts freedom where I imprisoned you. Which I doubt anyone will do. countering imprison is easy. How else could my kensai/mage have killed the demilich solo? Azael 02-28-06, 05:05 AM Actually, fuck this. Why don't you just put your monk against my kensai mage 1 on 1. I'm calling you out! seekeroftheway 02-28-06, 04:43 PM Nah, not worth the effort. I seriously don't care who's better, because technically we're on the same side. spidergoat 03-02-06, 07:08 PM I used to play Runescape, it is ok. Sadly, that's something people under the Taliban were never allowed to enjoy. seekeroftheway 03-02-06, 07:10 PM People under the taliban weren't allowed to enjoy. Period. |
