I am looking for some new albums and have noticed that some of the best ways to find really great albums are to simply ask people. Now, I like all types of music EXCEPT for country(besides Johny Cash) and techno.

Here is how you all can help me. If it isn't too much, could you all just list five albums that you feel are MUST HAVES? If you could make them different genres (such as rap, rock, etc..) that'd be good. Think if you were trapped on a desert island, what FIVE albums would you want to have?

Here are some websites that list supposedly really good albums, if you see any albums that you think totally sucked on one of these lists, lemme know:

http://www.rollingstone.com/features/coverstory/featuregen.asp?pid=2164

Also, is anyone a member of any record clubs and if so, are you satisfied and do you reccomend it?

Thanks for your help!
-Trent

You can't go wrong with these one:

-Weezer - The Blue Album. One of the best album of the 90's and its dirt cheap these days.

-Their followup effort, Pinkerton, takes a few listens to appreciate, but everyone who gives it a try ends up obsessed with Weezer (usually after hearing blue first). The second half of pinkerton, "songs from the black hole" can be downloaded for free.

Its one of my all time favourite albums.

-If you don't have anything from the 'Pixies', Doolittle will rock your world.

-Cakes' "Comfort Eagle" isn't one of my favourites, but its grossly underated and something you can listen to it at any hour of the day without getting bored of.

Yeah, I've got both of those Weezer albums and they are both outstanding.

How about RAP albums, does anyone know of any really really good RAP albums?

The Clash - London Calling

An absolutely amazing album. The Clash do about five genres (punk, rock, pop, disco, piano ballad) better than most bands do one. "Death or Glory" has one of the most underappreciated guitar riffs ever written, "Guns of Brixton" has a dark, brooding reggae vibe, kinda like the Fugees' take on "Burnin' and Lootin'," the title track's a stone cold classic, "The Card Cheat" is an amazingly ambitious song, using piano and the metaphor of a gambler to discuss the downfall of the British empire ... yeah, it's outstanding.

A3 - "Exile on Coldharbour Lane"

The guys who did the Sopranos theme song. Kinda bizarre concept album about drugs, religion, and socialism. There's a truly insane sample of Jim Jones, the asshole cult leader with the Kool Aid.

As for good rap ... Lucy Ford from Atmosphere, Quality Control from J-5, Infinite from Eminem,

Kind Of Blue (Miles Davis)

Close To The Edge (Yes) - you could also get their Best Of collection if you're not ready for hardcore Yes, yet.

Seraphim Classics - Brahms: Symphony No. 4 & Shicksaslied (Johannes Brahms)

The Artistry of Wes Montgomery (Wes Montgomery) - This guy, I think, is the equal of Jimi

Under The Table & Dreaming (Dave Matthew's Band) - Gives you some hope for the future of music.

Also, anything from Scott Joplin and Jethro Tull is awesome. So check that out...

Wow everyone thankyou so much for all your replys, I'll definitaly be checking out some of these. I appreciate people posting only albums that they would consider CLASSICS, not albums that you would need to appreciate the genre to understand.

I've got a REALLY great album for everyone, and I would be willing to bet that none of you have heard of him or it. I would consider it to be the best album that came out in 2002. Here it is:

BLAZING ARROW by Blackalicious

It is a rap album, but Blackalicious doesen't curse on it which makes it pretty easy to listen to. He has some GREAT lyrics and the best thing is that most of them are positive and extremely clever. There is no way that your not going to fall in love with this album after two run-throughs, so if ya'll want a great album , check it out.
