This is an excerpt from the complete speech given by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the Durban Review Conference, a UN conference on racism, in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, 20th April 2009. (full speech - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/8010747.stm) That comment is aimed squarely at the global financial fiasco, the war torn ME fiasco, and the lack of focus in the Western mind, on "getting along". The pursuit of Geo strategic goals at the expense of humanity and the value of human life. The Nations that walked out of the conference are Germany, the United States, Israel, Canada, Australia, Italy, the Netherlands and New Zealand, and now Poland. Israel did not bother to attend, once, again playing on its well worn VICTIM position. This was apparently due to references to Zionism as a racists ideology. You can read this in the speech. It seems, the truth is hard to face, and it is far simpler to walk out, and pretend that Zionism does not equate to racism, than to sit and listen to a humanist, spiritual, measured and rational speech from Ahmadinejad. I think the most important statement from his speech is the one quoted above, and that could well make certain nations uncomfortable, and could also be seen as a partial reason for the walk out. (the speech was available before presentation) A pertinent point to be taken from Ahmadinejad`a speech and Western reaction, is that rather than remain inclusive and participate to improve the problem of RACISM in the world today, the arrogant stance adopted by the Nations that boycotted the Conference, is actually vindicating major points in Ahmadinejad`s speech. Any (rational) comments?
The same JVP [Jewish Voice for Peace] member also exposed a long running hasbara that we have seen in these forums http://www.muzzlewatch.com/2009/04/21/omg-photo-of-repressed-muslim-woman-is-actually-movie-still/
Watch the glorious stand against insanity and brute racism for yourself. Europe finally takes a stand against this clown. Had he spoke about something pertinent and not specifically targeting Israel...I doubt they'd of walked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hlxvMYu28Y Anybody notice Britain leading the charge? You know the nation that supposedly is boycotting Israel?
Brown nosers all. They put their own vested interests before human rights. What a surprise The one that signed the Balfour Declaration, you mean?
Ahmadinejad is using the Jews as Hitler used them, convenient scapegoats to distract the people from internal problems. He's brown nosing the entire Arab world.
My mistake. It was the FRENCH delegate as he promised to do in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNP1aGtSOZ0
Perhaps the Israelis should try that, the Iranians seem to treat the Jews better than the Israelis treat their minorities. And their candidates seem to be more honest. Plus they spend only 4% of their GDP on defense.
dude your plain wrong, Australia never WENT at all. Acording to the goverment this was because it was expected to be anti israil. Personally i disagree with the goverments stance but you fight the fights you can win, there will be no elections in the forseeable future fought over australia's surport for israil because both major parties agree on it. Its sad but thats the way it is
What I remember about Obama is how he stood by silently while 1500 Gazans who had been blockaded for almost 2 years were killed by the Israelis in January. Yup, thats how I remember him.
And who stands by silently when Gazans are shooting deadly rockets at Israel? ...Most of the Arab world, that's who.
Walkouts also preemptive of further statements made by Makmoo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ps6vaiNstE "Zionists are responsible for the invasion of Iraq." Really? Israel did that too?
There are other specifics to be discussed, but Israel, being a MAJOR problem in the region that encompasses Iran, cannot, and SHOULD not escape criticism.
You are so wrong its laughable. Exactly the opposite applies. Israel uses the holocaust as a constant excuse for its violations against human rights in the region. So far only Ahmadinejad has had the courage to speak out against injustice.
