View Full Version : Ah man this is sinking
imaplanck. 10-10-06, 12:25 PM Ah I noticed the sudden influx of ufo nuts to sciforums and now we have an alien emblem. this is looking bad for the scientific community that we knew and loved. If this is going to run into a UFO site I for one am not going to be posting here any morel I cant believe david would sell out like this. This is so fucked up!
The logo looks cool. It has that.. je ne sais pas..
The logo looks cool. It has that.. je ne sais pas..
I think you mean Je ne sais quoi :)
imaplanck. 10-10-06, 12:37 PM Yeah it has that je ne sais pas never had sex look about it:rolleyes:
Nikelodeon 10-10-06, 12:37 PM Je n'aime pas.
sderenzi 10-10-06, 12:54 PM Calm down it's not like this is the end of SciForums, maybe it's only the begining. In all actuality there is a real and serious threat to society in general, if these alien abductions are actually occuring then we have a serious problem on our hands. Now of course aliens in general are not provable, but ehh most of what people discuss on here is general chit-chat really not provable in anyway. I like the sciforums, and besides what of the logo, UFO's define scifi in the most direct way, everyone knows what they are.
thedevilsreject 10-10-06, 02:08 PM i dont mind new look sciforums, it isnt a totally radical change
This place will never be the same without pimpleplanck. waaaaaaaaaa.
I like the time format on the right of the posts.
thedevilsreject 10-10-06, 02:18 PM dang i hadn't noticed that, i like it too
spuriousmonkey 10-10-06, 02:18 PM it's not an alien. It's a little mouse on in her cosy nest. top view.
Nikelodeon 10-10-06, 02:27 PM Well, we will get a sudden influx of mouse lovers. Either way.....
I'm not a UFO nut either but they might be more interesting than white supremacists we already host. I LOVE the new look. HUGE improvement. Now we need some hardass moderators.
redarmy11 10-10-06, 05:55 PM I like the time format on the right of the posts.

Well I bastard don't - especially when a post is listed as '1 day ago'. Really fucking informative. Put it back to how it used to be. If there's one thing that in the long term is going to get on my fucking nerves, it's this.
superluminal 10-10-06, 05:58 PM Crap.
superluminal 10-10-06, 06:02 PM I HATE the alien logo thing.

Ya I have to say when I noticed that the accurate time and date were gone I got kinda pissed. Like what the hell, that's important.
And the smiles are all colorful. And the blushing one sucks now.
And the Alien/mouse in the top along with that whole top banner makes this place look to fancy. :(
Don't have any other complaints for now though lol
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 06:13 PM "This plane is definately crashing!!!
This boat is obviously sinking!!!
This building's totally burning down!!!
And my heart is slowly drying up!!!"
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 06:16 PM You know...
If that alien thing WERE turned into a mouse... with maybe an ear growing out of its back or it's skull laid open with wires dangling out...
Then that might fit the motif a bit better.
Of course, care would need to be taken to remove the alien aspect. We don't want a logo that could be seen as a mouse or an alien depending on perspective.

It could be a sort of Rorschach test...
Mr Anonymous 10-10-06, 06:29 PM Ah I noticed the sudden influx of ufo nuts to sciforums.....
Sudden? Plank old man, it's been positively quiet of the Nut Ball Front of late - grave like. We have a long standing and proudly held tradition of positively attracting nutters - gives something for the rest of us to.
Granted, alien logo, not really Sciforums, but that's just a minor visual glitch, be gone by the weekend, hardly equivalent to the Sacking of Rome in the meanwhile.
The changes are frankly cosmetic - actually, have to say, I like - pages are loading a lot quicker my end and fully first go - user wise I'm a happy bunny.
Yep, Dave's gone. That means change. But surely isn't really the whole point that we, the members, endeavour to keep and maintain the place to the standards we've come to expect from around here. From ourselves. Administration doesn't post the topics, doesn't formulate the responses, in short - doesn't keep the place vibrant, alive. We do. Same as always did.
That only gets to change if the people who make the place what it is all suddenly decide to stomp off and all because of a few cosmetic enhancements. Which, for the record, are actually working better. It's still the same spread of people here it always was - only thing a tincture out of whack is one simple graphic.
Easy fix.
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 06:40 PM What do you think of the new sans serif font? I was wondering if you were going to go all crazy and switch to Times New Roman or something.
There are a few other issues besides the alien/mouse. But, mostly trivial. And it seems that the new administration is at least willing to hear us out on what we like/don't like.
There will be a period of adjustment, but as long as the changes are cosmetic? We'll survive.
Mr Anonymous 10-10-06, 06:46 PM Well said.
I think Camel-Toe Woman should be in our logo.
What say you?
"This plane is definately crashing!!!
This boat is obviously sinking!!!
This building's totally burning down!!!
And my heart is slowly drying up!!!"
That would be some shit luck, dude.
Stryder 10-10-06, 08:06 PM Well there is the Logo contest which is suppose to get us Sciforumers to actually come up with a logo.
http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=58600
If you really feel that the "alien" logo isn't good enough, then obviously come up with something better to save us from it. Just think of it for now as a "Spaceholder" until there is something better.
Mr Anonymous 10-10-06, 08:49 PM I think Camel-Toe Woman should be in our logo.
What say you?
I dunno... I'm thinking more a chimp sitting on the toilet reading the newspaper's probably more our level.
Camel-toe is just too, Madonna for round here, y'know...? ;)
"This plane is definitely crashing!!!
This boat is obviously sinking!!!
This building's totally burning down!!!
And my heart is slowly drying up!!!"
I get the drift, but literally, what does it mean when one says "my heart is drying up"? That they have no feelings? I've just never heard that expression before.
Perhaps the alien logo reflects the view that Sciforum is at the forefront of new ideas: a place where new ideas are created, offered, and openly debated.
Personally, I also do not like it because it infers an association with Sciforum being geared toward science fiction rather than science, so this new logo is somewhat of a contradiction in that sense.
It would be nice if the adminstrators could explain it a bit? I love the new format/template and rearrangement of the options.
I HATE the alien logo thing. Then don't look at it!
The far right side of the screen is cutoff for me. In the upper right corner where it says Welcome, Genji-and beneath it says Private Messages 0, Tota-------it cuts off and there is no blue sliding bar on the bottom of the screen. That's my only complaint.
riku_124 10-10-06, 09:24 PM we should have a pciture of a flamethrower :) BYOF
I think Camel-Toe Woman should be in our logo.
What say you?I think one of Muslim's erotic pics should be the logo! The one by the pool.....
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 09:25 PM The far right side of the screen is cutoff for me.
Hmm.
That's kinda screwed.
The size must be set to a certain pixel size rather than 100%.
Easy fix, I think.
What's your screen resolution? Less than 1024x768?
I was thinking a brain in the shape of a penis, or a penis in the shape of a brain.
leopold99 10-10-06, 09:26 PM i think woodys pic of the 3 arms should be our logo, or a goat.
Hmm.
That's kinda screwed.

Easy fix, I think.Nothing I can fix I know that! I guess I'm not missing anything over there.
I would like to see about 20 more smilies. These are an improvement but we need more.
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 09:28 PM Smilies suck.
I'd like to see about 20 less smilies.
And more gay-bashing...
Muaha!
Anyway.
Did you see my edit? What's your screen resolution?
Hmm.

invert_nexus 10-10-06, 09:30 PM What's my resolution?? I haven't a clue what that even means
In that case, I bet you're on the default of 800 x 600.
Screen resolution is how many pixels show on your monitor.
Are you on Windows XP? If so, right click the desktop. Select properties. Then go to the last tab and change your resolution to 1024 x 768. See if that helps.
If you're on an earlier os... I'm not sure how to do it. Probably through the control panel. Display settings...
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 09:33 PM Hmm.
I just changed my resolution to 800 x 600 and it still spans the screen just fine.
Wonder why it's different for you?
What browser are you using?
Let me see what IE does.
Nope. Still works fine for me.
Weird.
You're not the first person to mention this bug.

I am on a computer that is part of a 30k plus unit system spread over a large suburban school district so I can't change too much. Never run into this before. It is Windows Professional XP and the computers are a year old. Dell's.
invert_nexus 10-10-06, 09:37 PM Heh.
The desktop is the part of the screen you see when no windows are open.
And. Yeah. I forgot that you can't change your settings. That doesn't look like the issue anyway.
Weird. Maybe the admins can figure it out.
Post it in the Forum Upgrade thread.
I'm keeping tabs on problems and suggestions and plan on starting a thread in a few days time after things have settled down a bit.
Your issue has been added to the list.

imaplanck. 10-10-06, 11:57 PM Put it back to how it used to be. .
I second that. OK the new admin has saved the forum:cool: , but why change it so much? I am convinced that the new logo alone will indeed turn away new science members in favour of wackos and I question the motives of the new admin. OK I know I am a dick and not exactly a credit to the forum but I loved it the way it was.:(
cole grey 10-11-06, 12:11 AM The alien is a nice try for something more visually stimulating - but it doesn't fit - unless you are saying that people who feel alienated from society should come in here and post, in which case it fits.
But really, it doesn't fit - scifi and aliens are only a very tiny, very, very tiny part of sciforums.
Thanks for caring though.
P.s. I like the dated post format better than the 9 hours ago thing, but i'm sure there are people who like the new format so whatever.
