View Full Version : Aerospace,Aeronautical, astronomy Majors?
Hi,
i am posting on this after a long long time.
Can i do a Major (M.S) in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering?I am interested in Cosmology, and would love to pursue it as a science subject.I have heard that ASU provides such a course, but in Arts form.I wanna do Engineering in the same. Can anyone help me?
thanks.
bye!:(

Aero engineering is no great problem but with cosmology? That's unlikely. However, try googling with these as keywords, you might hit on some appropriate schools.
Cheers,
Ron.
Chroot will probably be able to give you some pointers.
If you want cosmology, study astrophysics. Aerospace engineering has nothing to do with cosmology.

Aeronautical Engineering is what I wanna do.But am i suitable for that or is there any prerequisite for that...I am a computer Engineering student after all...

Again I recommend that you do a google search and look at the requirements for a college/university that you fancy. In the UK, for example, there are only two or three aero degree courses (as such) but aero is often studied within, say, a mech course.
The aero degrees that we run require that you're competent at maths and a numerate science like physics (which I assume you are if you're doing computing). But shop around.
Cheers,
Ron.

Okay, when is pfcgrogan going to get banned? wet1? I'm getting tired of this.
- Warren
pfcgrogan seems to be having troubles with code and tags.
His post appeared blank but was not.
one of my goals in life is to see teh rest of the universe. WHat should I study to make myself qualified to work on and fly on starships?
qfrontier 01-30-03, 10:08 PM I guess aerospace engineering would help you and also astrophysics will help you. Try reading some books on quantum theory and those stuff...im after the same thing ur after :)
RDT2,
i have studied High level maths which includes various topics like Partial Differntial Equations,Bessel Equations,Rodrigues formaulae,Gamma functions,Beta Functions and interconversion questions which are favorites of all the universities i would like to presume. Also Difference Equations and their solutions separately also using Z-transforms...
My knowledge also includes Transforms study which almost every Engineering Student would have i presume...Like Laplace Transforms,Foruier Complex,Hankel,Hilbert,Mellin transforms,FFTs etc.I have also learnerd Physics in my First Year which includes Basic Quantum Mechanics ,Theory of special and general Relativity. We also have Chemistry in One semester whcih included complete Morrison Boyds study that we almost completed in High school.
I have also studdied in my first year Mechanical Engineering as a subject. It had two parts, that is to say it included two subjects, viz thermodynamics which included all the laws and other things ranging from Internal combuston engines to Their structures, various types of Boilers(Lancashire etc)We also studied in details the ICs and their Relatives.
We also had in this only a subject called Strength of Materials as a subject. This included common stuff like stress strain initially and then some complex parts like Torsions etc.
In electrical engineering i have done stuffs like Machines of all kinds(DC MOTORS,AC MOTORS IN DETAILS,ALTERNATORS,DC GENERATORS,SINGLE PHASE INDUCTION MOTORS,THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTORS...and generators...)Also some basic theorems like Thevenin,Norton,Tellegens and Max power transfer AC AND DC,Two POrt Networks in details like Image Impedences, parameter Interconversions etc...also Communications in details...
This was just a fraction of our mentioned couse in some subjects(IST YEAR AND 3RD SEMESTER,THIS DOESNOT INCLUDE FURTHER SYLLABII).Anyhow does that Qualify me?...I did a search on Google only to find some Irrelevant results like where ASU offers degree in Arts in such subjects...
bye!
Thanks...
You learned everything from thermodynamics to fourier analysis to general relativity in three semesters? I don't believe that for a second.
- Warren
Then dont.I know my Curriculum.
bye!
Chroot,
If i tell you about my FIFTH Semester Syllabii then,You will probably kill yourself or me...
:)

Which country are you in? I browse through the academic network so I might be able to find something.
Ron.
I am searching for U.S colleges that provide this...
thanks.

I suppose learning what all that means would be a good start.

I did a google search for "aeronautical engineering" and got over 40,000 hits (many of which are, of course, irrelevant for your needs). However U.C Davies, U Michigan, Rensselear, etc all came up on the first page. Many of the aeronautics programmes are run within departments such as mechanical engineering so you might like to search on that as well.

might be a place to start.
Good hunting,
Ron.
Thanks!.Wonderful information.
Thanks very much indeed...
