Hello,

This is a really stupid question and probably P incorrect; but here it is, why do Americans of British ancestry look different from the British du jour? I mean, can evolution work like that in only 200 years or so? :p

No, you still don't get it. I'm asking about the two peoples not about your neighbors.

So what features do Brits have that American descendants of Brits dont have and vice versa?

Hani

I don't know, they don't look identical. I can easily tell between an American and a British.

Are you sure its facial features? I can usually tell too, its the clothing that gives it away.

I thought of that, but I think there is something about features too.

That's because America became a melting pot of different cultures. America isn't just British anymore it's Irish, Scottish, German, Russian.... It keeps going.

Yeah. I think first Jamestowners looked more British than the current standard white Americans.

Have you got any pictures of these standard white Americans?

I don't think so..Aside from the obvious fact that he's the PM, He does look british.. but i can't put my finger on what makes him different.. try posting someone less obvious..

Their features are different, that's what it is.

I don't know how to put it... American faces are more "flat"... Sorry...

American whites have distinct features. They don't look like British, French, Germans, or anybody else. It's weird.

Americans mostly resemble Germans:

I don't know about American histroy enough, but I'll suppose that there were a lot of Germans involved there.

This raises the question, can you tell an australian from a American ?
eg, can you tell her

from him

Other than their sex, they're the same in idealogy.

Look what Wikipedia says, I swear I truly honestly had no idea what so ever :)

German Americans (German Deutschamerikaner) are citizens of the United States of ethnic German ancestry and currently form the largest ancestry group in the United States, accounting for 17% of US population.

I always thought the majority of whites would be British Americans. This is what cuased the issue.

Insteresting. I'm was curious about the one county in Pennsylvania that has a plurality of "other" on the map given:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Census-2000-Data-Top-US-Ancestries-by-County.svg

Turns out they're Polish.

I can easily tell between an American and a British.

You may think you can, but I very much doubt it. You are likely basing your belief on biased examples, even if you don’t realize it. I’d bet good money that in a properly designed blind test you would not achieve results better than chance alone.

Or how about an Irish-American male comedian from a Finnish female president? :D
