Well people, Australia has officially taken another step toward living in Orwell-land. That ASIO legislation has just been passed. They now have the power to take in ANYONE they say is a "suspected terrorist", question them for 48 hours WITHOUT LEGAL REPRESENTATION. If you don't answer questions to their satisfaction, they have the right to toss you in jail for five years. This legislation has passed. I know I didn't vote for it.

    No worries

Unless you happen to be a suspected terrorist then you won't have anything to worry about.

What do you think... the authorities will go round incarcerating anyone they catch with expired parking meters or overdue library books, or people have not given them cause to suspect them as terrorists??

What I'm actual;ly worried about is the way such laws have been misused so often in the past. Maybe a troublesome union leader, student rally organiser, political opponent, et cetera, might be hauled in for questioning the day before they are supposed to do something important, like have a political rally or a union meeting. This happened in Germany in the 1930s, it happened a lot in South Africa, Romania, the USA during McCarthy's era, the Philippines, and more. This stuff does happen.
