A very stupid question

Discussion in 'Physics & Math' started by StupidestQuestion, Sep 9, 2006.

  1. K first off sorry if this is not in the right section for this post.
Second off this will probably be the most ridiculous question ever asked on the board.

Ok so I got into a debate with a couple of people the other day about any type of matter known to man being able to penetrate the human skin if it has enough force. I do mean ANYTHING. So long as it has enough force/velocity. If not possible please give an example. I can't find this answer anywhere... hopfully this will change. Thank you for reading this, I hope someone laughs at how stupid it is.

What kind of possible logic is that! You've got to be kidding... anything, even if it isn't matter, can penetrate human skin at a certain velocity. Jesus I think even photons do and they're what makeup light!

This is the dumbest question ever, just think about it man. If you throw something hard enough, even if it doesn't have that much mass, it'll eventually punch threw whatever it's aimed at.

Another thought, why the hell is this even in human science?! It doesnt' belong here! It should be in the physics area god!

With enough force, anything can penetrate skin.

  9. Thank you for the ANSWER without being a dick about it. I appricate it.

sderenzi: you must be pretty ignorant or is it that you wanted to prove your supirority over the internet? I clearly stated that this was the stupidest question ever. Not only that I said sorry for it being in the wrong section-- it was an off the wall question. As smart as you may be or think you may be, youre an even bigger asshole. Congrats man, I hope your happy with your life.
You can say what you will after this, just know I'm never logging onto this site again, so no need to waste your time-- cause I know you have a lot of time on your hands.

    Thanks again Roman.

Great, just what we need. The lowest common denominator is driving away the people who show potential.

Sammy, the essence of science is the statement, "I don't know." This was a perfectly reasonable question and it was asked with perfect politeness. Get with the program please. If you drive away new members the moderators will probably ban you, and if you keep doing it and it happens, nobody will miss you.

Yep. Even air can penetrate the skin!

Well, I'm not sure that Alpha rays can penetrate skin. They can't even penetrate a sheet of paper.

According to wikipedia, alpha particles cannot travel through much skin:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_ray

This is because, despite their high energy, they have relatively slow velocities. Which pretty much means an alpha ray isn't going fast enough to get through your skin.

But if they do get inside you, they do as much as 100 times as much chromosomal damage as radiation from other sources.

A very large piece of matter could not enter the skin at any speed. I'm thinking of a boulder, or a nice flat facet of diamond the size of a car. At most you would splatter against it.

My second thought is that skin (not the pores, but the atoms themseves) can't be penetrated very easily, since no atom ever really touches another one.

Farts, once emnitted, do not repenetrate the skin of the emitter. Levels of rancidity are of no significance to pemetration of the skin of others located in the mear and effective physical neighborhood of the fart source. This information is purely theoretical and is not supported by known peer reviewed and published scientific literature.
