I just stumbled onto this thread
http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=52416
Which says you will be permanently banned if you make a sock puppet while temporarily banned.

Ok yes I am Dr Lou Natic and I was temporarily banned and I made a sock puppet.
But should I be permanently banned for flagrantly breaking the rules?
I don't think so, and I'd like to explain why before I'm banned so everyone can feel sorry for me.

First of all, I was temporarily banned in the first place simply because JamesR has no sense of humour, I don't know why I should be held accountable for his shortcomings as a human being.
Someone made a thread about how a baby which drowned in a bucket of vomit deserved to die for being so stupid.
Strangely someone came along and accused the thread starter of racism out of nowhere, exposing their own racism since they assumed such negligence could only take place in a minority family.
I parodied this idiot by saying "the baby was probably a n*gger, what a tragedy, I love n*ggers" or something like that. Making fun of them for accidentally being extremely racist while trying their best to look righteously against racism. I made the absurd comedic exagerration of claiming to "love n*ggers" because that's what comedic genius' do, make a caricature of their target to shed light on their foibles.

Ok lets just pretend it's not a hilarious joke, I'm still only guilty of failing to capitalise on the comedic situation in accordance with it's full potential.
JamesR thinks I was being racist or insensitive to dead babies or something, I don't know exactly what I was banned for but I doubt it was inadequate comedic stylings.
He simply failed to stay with me on my journey of hilarity.
HE failed.
I paid the price.
Think about that...

So, we agree the 2 week ban was a complete injustice in the first place.

Now it actually has been 2 weeks, and Dr lou still can't log in, but that's not why I villainously created a sock puppet.
I really just wanted to make fun of invert for being such a drama queen about sciforums having a shift in management.
I find it amusing, is that a crime?
A new username was necessarry.

I was genuinely unaware of this rule that you will be permanently banned for making a sock puppet while temporarily banned.
Ofcourse I knew deep down it would not be encouraged, or else the banning would be a waste of time.
But I served my time, I took jamesr's negligence in not reinstating me after 2 weeks in good spirits and just rejoined with a new name and had fun with invert.

And now I come to realise for this the great Dr Lou Natic will be permanently banned?
Is this not a disgrace? All things considered?

first of all you should have created the puppet to log on and PM james that you couldn't log in, the poster vulvarse has been online for the last 3 hours posting all over the place.

second, i haven't met a banned poster yet that could prove they were banned unjustly.

If your temp ban period is up, there shouldn't be a problem. Pm James and find out what's up.

As to me being a drama queen, we'll find out, won't we?
After all, if things go down in a politically correct manner, you'll be one of the posters who will never, ever be able to post here. Your temp ban will quickly become a permaban.

Also, I feel that we users have a right to complain about the way the shift in ownership took place considering that we are the ones that have been paying for the forums hosting costs for the past two years.
Also, we have more than a right to be worried about possible imposition of strict rules and politically correct bullshit. PC behavior is generally par for the course and is part of the reason that Sci stands out amongst the boring shitholes out there.

But, that's all off topic.

So.
Doc Lou, eh?
Roman saw right through your ass.
I was thinking you were probably the Devil Inside.

rejoined with a new name and had fun with invert.

Unfortunately, you went a bit over the top. You might have worried me a bit if you hadn't gone to such ludicrous extremes.
You had Absane and Communist Hamster shitting their pants for a minute or two though...

I just did.
So you haven't acknowledged a banned poster that could prove they were banned unjustly.
Congratulations ignoramous.

I made this thread as soon as I found the thread about sock puppets and temporary bans.
Before that I was politely posting all over the place as vulvarse, yes.
Not even kicking up a stink about jamesr's negligence.
That is correct.

i consider your ban a just one, if indeed what you say is true.

Yeah I'm pretty much incapable of being non-doc-like.
All the more reason why jamesr's relentless persecution of me is so cruel.
No one tells him he can't lean to the left in his posts.

Unfortunately, you went a bit over the top. You might have worried me a bit if you hadn't gone to such ludicrous extremes.

I only intended for you to be worried for the first couple of sentences, then confused in the middle, and maybe slightly embarrassed by the end.
I had no intention of drawing it out for posts and posts.
The fact some were still with me by the end of that post is a surprising bonus.

Hey, Lou.
Got bored so decided to go search for that post you referenced.
You made a wee mistake in your time calculations.
The two weeks isn't up until tomorrow.
Well. Tonight actually.
In about 35 minutes time.
Might want to ask for leniency. Or just hope for the best.

Vulvarse aka Dr Lou Natic:

I think you need to grow up a bit. You've gone off half cocked and haven't even managed to get your facts right before throwing accusations around.

In response to the points you raise:

* You were never permanently banned. You were banned for 2 weeks. I have checked and you are free to log in as Dr Lou Natic right now. In fact, you did log in earlier today, so your claims that you cannot do so are false.

* You've been around sciforums long enough to be aware of the way this site is run. Pleading ignorance of rules against sock puppets and racist postings does not help your case.

* I banned you temporarily for repeated breaches of the site rules and not, as you put it, "because James R has no sense of humour". Hopefully, once you realise this you might consider altering your behaviour to the acceptable standard that other members have no problem abiding by.

* Let me be quite clear: blatantly racist posts, which explicitly or implicitly promote violence against people of other races will not be tolerated here, even if you are stupid enough to consider such posts funny.

* It requires no action from me to reinstate somebody after a temporary ban period. The forum software does that automatically, and did so in your case once your time was up. I did not "forget" to reinstate you, since I had no need to remember to do so in the first place.

* You are certainly not the first disgruntled poster to make silly personal accusations against me. If I actually had it in for you, I could easily have banned your permanently. I am sorry you feel that my upholding of certain standards on sciforums amounts to "relentless persecution" of you. From memory, I think I might have temporarily banned you twice, including this time, since you started here. And both times were as a result of your behaviour rather than any ill feeling I have towards you. Frankly, Dr Lou Natic, you're not interesting enough to rate highly on a list of people I bear grudges against. You're just one more smart-arse teenager, most probably, and by no means deserving of being singled out as if you were special.

* You could have taken this up in private with me, but you chose to make it public. Therefore, I have responded to your concerns in a somewhat more public and strident manner than I might otherwise have done. For that, I make no apologies. Again, you brought this on yourself.

Let's hope you gain some maturity at some stage soon.

James, I'm more than a little sure that he was joking.
He couldn't resist creating the sock puppet to poke at me, but only later realized that he might have crossed a line that would result in a permanent ban. So, he made this thread so as to humorously bring up the subject and apply for leniency without actually having to be non-doc-like about it.

Or maybe I'm wrong.
Wouldn't be the first time.

You got bored?
Yeah I just got bored and put an AIDs infected syringe in your child's sandpit...
Anyway, I don't see how that's possible.
I wouldn't normally trust my memory, but I remember waking up on a saturday morning and discovering I was banned for 2 weeks.
I thought "what amazing timing" because I had reatives litterally on their way to my house from out of town who were going to be staying for 2 weeks.
Well they left yesterday, on a saturday morning. It's now sunday afternoon.
I made vulvarse last night after finding I still wasn't allowed access and finding that irresistably funny thread about the online health community.
I don't see how I can be wrong.

* You were never permanently banned. You were banned for 2 weeks. I have checked and you are free to log in as Dr Lou Natic right now. In fact, you did log in earlier today, so your claims that you cannot do so are false.
*I logged in earlier today and got the message that you get when you're banned, saying you do not have access for 1 of so many reasons or whatever.
I have not been able to post as Dr Lou natic, maybe I can now though.

* You've been around sciforums long enough to be aware of the way this site is run. Pleading ignorance of rules against sock puppets and racist postings does not help your case.
* I don't read all the threads or even most of the threads, ESPECIALLY locked stickies. I knew sock puppets were frowned upon but didn't know of the specific rule that temporarily banned people would be permanently banned if they made a sockpuppet.
* It wasn't a racist post, you took it at face value which is not how it was meant to be taken. In the context of the discussion it's pretty obvious.

* I banned you temporarily for repeated breaches of the site rules and not, as you put it, "because James R has no sense of humour".
It really does come down to you failing to pick up on the joke I'm afraid.
In lots of posts people sarcastically say "oh so I suppose we should just kill all gays" in defense of gays and it's no problem because you get it.
You just didn't get it this time, that's the only difference.
If that was a racist post then hypewaders saying "ok then lets just blow up the whole mideast and be done with it, yeah screw them towel heads ... idiot" is also a racist post. He's calling for us to blow up the middle east for christ's sake.
All of it!
The humanity!
And the term "towel heads" is just plain old offensive...

Obviously leniency is granted to those mocking racists or homophobes by doing exaggerated impersonations of them. I've been around long enough to know that, and thats all I was doing, which is clear upon a more comprehensive analysis of what was said.
At the end of the day you did make the mistake.
In haste I'm sure.
Is it reasonable to assume you weren't really reading the whole discussion, maybe scanning for discrepencies?

Hopefully, once you realise this you might consider altering your behaviour to the acceptable standard that other members have no problem abiding by.
They're the lucky ones. That's just how they are. How they happen to be -
basically enough like JamesR to have no problem abiding by his strict standard of decency.
I do genuinely find it difficult.

Unfortunately humour is underappreciated in modern society. And it is a shame we often have to refrain from using humour because people do not recognize for what it is or for what it is worth.

James R, Dr. Lou has a rather twisted sense of humour. That's the sort of humour I'm able to appreciate. Perhaps it doesn't suit your fancy, but you do need to realize that he is usually half-joking.

Dr. Lou is quite politically incorrect, but he's never incited racial hatred, or engaged in personal attacks on other posters.
