A stupid question.

Most of the people on this forum appear to have a very solid grip of this stuff, so this may come off as naive/stupid. Anyways... Is hoverboarding possible?! Will it be? Not just like 1 foot off the ground, slow moving hoverboarding, but awesome 1000 feet up in the sky, incredibly fast, incredibly dangerous, loop da loop, backflip hoverboarding? I need to know.

Ha ha. After looking through this forum a bit longer, I realize just how disproportionately juvenile and absurd this topic is. I still need answers though! Apply your mathematical minds to the problem!!

I actually think you could develop one provided you find out how they work in Back To The Future!

I'm thinking it might be anti-gravity.

All my attempts to build levitation boards failed, so maybe I'm not an expert, but seems to me that the power required to hover would still be the same as with a ducted fan.

There's no such thing as a stupid question. But you sure can get a lot of smart answers.

The plasmagenic stuff looks a lot like an EHD thruster / lifter. I don't think that one of those can lift its own weight (including power supply) yet.

The difference with plasmagnetics is in the laser and electromagnet. This would be a lot less energy efficient than a basic EHD thruster, but could potentially provide a lot more thrust for the same weight of power supply. However, the laser and electromagnet would add a lot of weight, particularly the magnet. I'd be surprised if one could be made to lift its own weight.

There are devices that will let you fly around in the air, but the limitation is that you want them in board format, which is impractical.
