A set of rules for arguments

    There should be a predefined set of rules, or standard list of beliefs that should be made public right away. There should be a standard format that auto-checks for logical inconsistency. And there should always be a clearly defined purpose, so that no argument goes astray into trivial technicalities. So who here can point me in a direction for learning these rules? I have a handy critical thinking guidebook - but nothing so comprehensive as applies to realistic arguing on a forum or face-to-face.
