i read about this earlier today and i thought, they ahd no right to say what they did but, what crossed my mind was, well they were instramental into the little girl going missing, i mean come on, they are doctors, they are always telling new mums and dads "never leave your children alone, not even for a second" and they cant take they're own advice!

    anyway here is the story:

    McCanns welcome papers' apology

The McCanns received a public apology read in open court

    McCann spokesman
Madeleine McCann's parents have welcomed a libel settlement which led to an apology by Express Newspapers over reports of her disappearance.
In a statement the McCanns said they were pleased that the newspaper group had admitted the "utter falsity" of the "grotesque" stories written about them.

The newspaper group has paid £550,000 to the Find Madeleine campaign.

It said it had been wrong to suggest the couple, of Rothley, Leicestershire, were responsible for Madeleine's death.

Madeleine disappeared, days before her fourth birthday, during a family holiday in the resort of Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, on 3 May last year.

Her parents, Kate and Gerry, have been named as suspects in the case by Portuguese police but have always denied any involvement.

We are pleased that Express Newspapers have today admitted the utter falsity of the numerous grotesque and grossly defamatory allegations that their titles published

    Is apology a turning point?

The McCanns were not at London's High Court for the settlement of their action against Express Newspapers on Wednesday.

However, their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, read a statement on their behalf outside the court.

It stated: "We are pleased that Express Newspapers have today admitted the utter falsity of the numerous grotesque and grossly defamatory allegations that their titles published about us on a sustained basis over many months.

"The exceptional publication of these apologies, together with today's statement of full apology in open court before Mr Justice Eady, was the only just and proper response by Express Newspapers following our complaint."

The couple's representatives said that from the late summer of 2007 until February this year, the Daily Express, the Sunday Express, the Daily Star and the Daily Star Sunday published more than 100 articles which were seriously defamatory of the couple.

Madeleine McCann went missing in Portugal in May 2007

In court Stephen Bacon, representing the newspapers, said: "Express Newspapers regrets publishing these extremely serious, yet baseless, allegations."

Wednesday's editions of the Daily Express and Daily Star both carry front-page apologies under the headline, "Kate and Gerry McCann: Sorry".

The Express said it accepted that a "number of articles in the newspaper have suggested that the couple caused the death of their missing daughter Madeleine and then covered it up".

It also acknowledged there was "no evidence whatsoever" to support that theory.

The paper added that Mr and Mrs McCann are "completely innocent of any involvement in their daughter's disappearance".

A similarly worded statement appears in the Daily Star.

The Star said it was making a "wholehearted apology to Kate and Gerry McCann for stories suggesting the couple were responsible for, or may be responsible for, the death of their daughter Madeleine and for covering it up".

LA, leaving the kids by themselves for a while is a compleatly different thing to commiting murder or manslaughter and covering it up (which is what they were accued of by the papers)

I will find you a link to the azaria chambilin case and the media atention surounding it

I wonder if just saying this line will show you how powerful the media can be (i expect you will have herd it before)

The McCanns really piss me off. They used the media for week and weeks to push their sob story and then when (and predictably so) the media start to print total shit they sue them. The McCann's want publicity and this court case gives then yet more.

There are methods to totally exonerate people from blame, unfortunately those methods would break a number of Civil Rights & Human Rights laws as they stand for 'Breach of Privacy', but would without a doubt allow officials to see from the perspective of any defendant. Obviously it would have to be used without their knowledge prior to being told of the results so as to not allow the creation of a fictional story to try and counter it.

I would explain more but it's not my place to here, however it could of saved a number of lives in some cases as well as proved/disproved without shadow of a doubt who is or is not guilty of some of the worst type of crimes.

your right it is a total diferant thing, however to me and in all honesty they were guilty at least in part anyway! what numpty leaves they're child alone while they go and have dinner!

the hotel had a babysitting service and they should be sued for neglect, and all they're other children put on the "at risk register" thats is what they would do if it was you or I!

LA, parents make mestakes, it may not be the best thing for the child but its understandable. They shouldnt be punished for this and they certinally dont deserve what they are going through because they made a mestake. Losing there child would be the hardest thing you could possably go through and i would sugest harder than even having a child die because like all families with missing people they have no closure, there is always hope (rational or not) and so they cant go through the griving prossess.

Just for your interest my parents lost my sister at the royal show one year, luckly she was smart enough to find a cop and they got her back but they dont deserve to be crusifide for losing her. I have herd stories of new parents leaving there kids in video stores by mestake and all sorts of this. Yes these are acidents rather than poor choices but just because its a poor choice doesnt mean they should have to suffer because of it. When i was young mum left the washing powder to low and i tried to help her with the laundry. I ended up swollowing the washing powder and she had to call the posions infomation service and deal with the fact that i had poisioned myself. Should she be critised for not forseeing this? what about lindy chambilin who didnt forsee a dingo killing her child while they were camping and then had to deal with the fact that she was accused (and found guilty) of his murder and it wasnt till years later her storie was proven corect

yes sorry, this is where we should disagree me thinks, they should be punished! they left they're child alone, even knowing that the hotel had a babysitting service!

loosing a child is a hard process to get through yes i agree, however they were neglegent.

and i am glad your perants found your sister again i really am, i also lost my son at a park one day, i was hysterical and we found him asleep on top of a climbing frame!
