Next door to Rod Serling's house, standing on the summer shore of long and skinny
Lake Cayuga, I was looking at the nearby opposite shore.
I was thinking of yesterday while swimming from a boat in the middle of the lake
I had seen the very curve of the earth, looking down the long stretch of the lake
    to the north.
The finger lakes often held me in its hand
with a command of incredible beauty.

Suddenly the water receded 60 feet until there was no water at the end of the dock.
The new wet sandy shore was glinting sun light and little squirmy critters
in a light I had never seen before.

The sky had spoken to me before and of course the earth and its seasons
in slow motion. But never had the water silently screamed
    such an unusual word.

After several minutes the water gradually but haphazardly came back
to its original shore. I stood questioning what I had just been told.
Not even the biggest boat on the lake ever effected the lake shore so dramaticly.

It took time to translate that moment clearly.
I listened to the words streaming from the radio many days later
telling me what I had seen.
It was the earth ringing like a bell from the great earthquake in China
that killed 200,000 while I watched a gentle shore slosh, like tea in a tea cup.

It took forty years to personally hear of the event in China
through the eyes of someone who was there.
Time and distance turned the cataclysmic into a gentle ripple
on Earth as it does through the universe.

You haven't seen nothing yet.....Wait till Yellowstone blows it's top!!! If you're anywhere in North America when Yellowstone goes, then leave that day blank on your calendar........Better yet, for a closer view of that coming global near exinction event, make your reservations now for a vacation at Yellowstone Lake.......It's not a question of "if" it will happen, it's a question of "when" it will happen....How about 40,000 years overdue for starters.....
