On this day, October 4th, 1957, forty five years ago:

The U.S.S.R. launched Sputnik which in many ways had
more of an effect on the world than the atomic bomb.

Just a reminder of what a supposedly backward,
agrarian society accomplished.

I'm not going to touch the Russia vs. USA argument with a ten foot pole, but definitely, Sputnik was a milestone for all of mankind. Thanks for the reminder. :cool:
