I'm glad SW fans enjoy their stuff so much but for me, I feel the depth of the characters in ST is more appealing. 3 or 4+ seasons to get to know each of them is very rewarding. They often write entire episodes devoted to a single character and you truly get a feeling of who they are, and why. My favorite characters are from Voyager because that's the show I was available for to watch from the very 1st episode. I liked Tuvok right away just because of how humorous it was to see his expression when Nelix was annoying the hell out of him. And who could deny that Starfleet and Maquis on the same ship isn't a great story waiting to happen? I took a liking to B'Elanna the first time she called Harry 'Starfleet'. But I'd love the Captain most of all, because she was taking on the biggest challenge of all, a new-ish crew, some Maquis, Nelix and Kess... a brand new, fresh cast, and the best potential for great character interaction.

SW is probably a very deep story if its drawn out more... at least one would hope so. But trying to wrap up the main plot in the duration of a movie AND give all the characters depth isn't easy. Luke was easy - one clip of an unsatisfied look on his face as he gazed up into the sky from a desert planet and I didnt really need much more. Han had a bit more to him - in debt and on the run, a ladies man who'd do anything for money but in the end, surprises us with his noble effort to help. I think his is one of the very few characters that seemed to have much debth to them, as did Lando. I loved how he had so much authority after having a background with Han, then find he's caught in the middle but ultimately draws the line at how far he can be pushed.

Anyway, I think Wars offered too much quantity and not enough quality (for my tastes). An alien species isnt very special when 80% of everything you see is something different. They're able to cross the galaxy so easily that it no longer seems very big, and nothing in it seems very rare. I guess what Im saying is they hardly ever end up encountering the unknown, and that is something Trek gives us plenty of: 'Going where no man has gone before.'

So which is better? Their technological strengths and weaknesses are irrelevent. The fact is each are far too different, like apples and oranges. Wars is hard core battle action, and Trek is adventuring into the unknown. If you're satisfied with either one, you may not care for the other, but I think both offer a great deal to be appreciated and should not be criticised by the standards of the other. You either reason your way out of a bad situation or you blast your way out. Who are we to say which is the most respectable?

They BOTH had their strengths and weaknesses but BOTH gave us entertainment which is what movies are supposed to do. To judge one against the other is ridiculous because they BOTh are different in many ways.
