Hi:
More than 25,000 people have died of the earthquake that hit southeastern city of Bam, Iran, early Friday. Almost 60 percent of the biggest mud-clay castle in the world that was located in the city is demolished. More than 30,000 people are wounded and the rescuers are doing their most to help the victims.
This morning when I was coming to the office I saw people lining up in Tehran to donate bloods. The quake stricken areas are in desperate need of bottled water.
Governments and peoples of the world are sending their condolences and sympathising with Iranian people. President Bush has sent a message of sympathy from his ranch in Texas, not mentioning the goverment of Iran.
May God bless the victims of this unwanted earthquake. Thanks

Events such as this always remind me of how small and fragile we all really are:(. Tragic news indeed Morteza and you have my deepest sympathy for what has happened to your country and your countrymen and women.

Hi :
Thank you for sending me condolences. It is very awful to turn on TV these nights. Scenes from the quake stricken areas are broadcast. Houses, shops are completely demolished. The grave diggers are very busy burying the dead. The pictures of the victims are printed on morning and evening papers. The country is mourning. Three days of mourning has been announced.
One feels unhappy to smile when one encounters a funny situation. Many people are wearing black to respect the dead.
I wish you fellows at Sciforum the best and I hope such disasters never strike you homeland. God bless you all, thanks.

In creation, they are of one origin
when a member is hurt by the world
other members become restless too.

let's hope that some good can come out of this, maybe the huge international relief effort that has swung into motion will bring Iran closer to the world community and help bring east and west a little closer together. :)

Too bad they turned down aide from Israel. But it is understandable.

Why does it always have to be about Israel? I mean it was a simple thread, nothing political but why did you mention it? Just wondering.

It just shows how deep seeded the hatred goes. Even in a time of crisis, the Ayatollah makes a point of perpetuating Islamic hatred of Israel.

Because I thought it was an important and interesting connection to the story.

Hi:
Dear 567, I very kindly want to inform you that this is a public site and each individual has the right to express his/her thought here if he/she wishes.
Secondly, it is a good point . People have a right to know? why ?
Thirdly, I live in Iran. I exactly feel what is going on here. Twenty five years of phsical and psychological torture. Some peole are happy here of the earthquake. They say the victims were kind of terrorists. God did it to muzzle them.
Fourthly, I do not know much about the details of the history of Israel. I might be against the Israeli government/regime but I am not at all against the people of Israel. I earnestly condemn the killings of inncent children of Israel - palestinians and jews, But i tell you Israel is a fact in MIddle East. You cannot simply wipe them just as you do something written with your eraser.
God bless you and all who wish for a time when the two sides of the conflict come to their senses.
:)

Islamic hatred?? Islamic hatred?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell does that mean?? There is no such thing as islamic hatred. Islam the religion of peace, does not perpetuate hate. What do you mean, the ayatollah did not acccept israeli help based on his islamic hatred?!! there's no law in Islam which says hate israel, & dont' accept its aid. The REASON Muslims all over the world show hatred towards israel is becaue of their depraved treatmetn of the palestinian Muslims. That is a totally valid reason to dislike a nation. The Israelis are barbarians and criminals for their treatment of the Palestininans.

what you're doing is nitpicking words and semantics.
we both know that the hate Iran has for Israel has its roots in Islam (or their interpretation of it). spin and sugarcoat it anyway you want but that's just the way it is.

as stupid the Ayatollah are, their fanaticism has nothing to do with the people of Iran.

it's sad so many people lost their lives and the ancient city with all its history has been destroyed. it is too bad the Ayatollah refuse help.
what's most disturbing is that, as Morteza said, some people say God punished these people for something...

Islam the religion of peace, does not perpetuate hate.

There are no religions of peace, much less Islam.

depraved treatmetn of the palestinian Muslims

They are getting what they ask for.

Couldn't the Iranians see this tragedy coming? After all, the country is on a fault line, and their homes are made from mud. It will happen again, too. How about joining the modern world?

Fucking hell, why did you guys turn this thread into a debate about Israel/Palestine/Islam/whatever? Threadjacks are fine and all, but show some propriety and leave it out of this one.

Morteza Olangui: You have my condolences for the loss of your countrymen. They were fellow human beings to all of us. I live just outside of Boston and it was large news here. We're all thinking of you guys.

Let's also remember Iran's other recent earthquakes: 1997, 1,000 killed in Ardabil province; a further 1,500 killed in Khorasan three months later.

1990: 35,000 killed in Gilan province.

As someone who lives in earthquake country (California) the people of Iran have my sympathies.

Not only do I hope that the international aid will bring Iran closer to the west, I also hope it will lead to some reform of their building codes to improve their homes earthquake resistance.

Oooook out of ME hate talk here.

if that same earthquake magnitude were to happen here in the bay area (San Francisco Berkley Oakland, etc.) we would have 2-3 deaths! I think that of all things Iran must at least start considering building codes and reinforcing structures!
