View Full Version : A Perfect Circle's "Orestes" RateLimit 04-23-03, 08:23 PM Did anybody else interpret this song other than abortion? Whyatt Thrash 04-24-03, 08:22 AM I've always thought it was about separation from friends or family. Kami 04-24-03, 12:35 PM Orestes was the protagonist in Aeschylus' 'Oresteia' His father Agamemnon was killed by his mother Clytemnestra and her lover. Orestes then kills his mother and her lover and is forced to flee as the gods take matricide (even justifiable matricide) as a sin and so send the harpies to chase him. The whole thing ends in the temple of Athena in a legal battle between the harpies and Apollo where they try to figure out if he should face the penalty for matricide even when she was herself guilty. I read the lyrics of the Perfect Circle song and I can see a relationship and the reason that the song is called Orestes, but nothing beyond that. I think the seperation from the family reason is probably correct. the 'umbilical residue' is the key part to me. Kami |
