View Full Version : Χρόνια πολλά, Wanderer!
Arditezza 02-20-05, 07:23 AM Happy birthday, sir. May your day be filled with people who don't offend your senses and lots of good sweets.
Long may you live, Constantinos
May you live many years
May you grow old
With white hair
May you spread out everywhere
The light of knowledge
And may everybody say
There lives a wise man
WANDERER 02-20-05, 07:58 AM You are so kind.
Thanks.
Una fatsa una razza. :D
Or something like that.
Next year I expect a gift. ;)
And this is how Wanderer truly feels:
How can I, that girl standing there,
My attention fix
On Roman or on Russian
Or on Spanish politics?
Yet here's a travelled man that knows
What he talks about,
And there's a politician
That has read and thought,
And maybe what they say is true
Of war and war's alarms.
But O that I were young again
And held her in my arms.
W. B Yeats, Politics

I think you need to read my ‘Humour’ thread.
You have no sense of the absurd.
Or is this your way of getting yourself noticed?

W. B Yeats, PoliticsThank you for telling me how I “really’ feel.
A "wise man" with such a profile?I believe the poem insinuated that one day I MIGHT be wise. Not that I am wise.
P.S.

Shouldn’t you be amusing yourself here?

Arditezza 02-20-05, 08:31 AM There is wisdom to be found and gained from many different experiences. Not one method of living life is the one that will be right for all people, and some people learn better from going against the grain.
And I would suppose, that having some profile is better than having none at all and not sharing your interests with others. Wanderer is unguarded, wanton, and extremely interesting, is he not? And while I may not always agree with his views, they do have a certain wisdom to them.
invert_nexus 02-20-05, 03:04 PM What the hell. I'll throw in a happy birthday.
And a bit of advice.
Don't get none on ya.
None of what? That's the question, isn't it?
Too bad you weren't born a week earlier. It would have been somehow ironic if you had been born on Valentine's Day. Don't know why, but it would.

Not so, my lord; I am too much i' the sun.
Thank you for telling me how I “really’ feel.
Here's another one:
ALONE
by Edgar Allan Poe
1830
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then–in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life–was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.
I believe the poem insinuated that one day I MIGHT be wise. Not that I am wise.
The poem "insinuated" nothing. It's about an old man wishing to be young again. An old man who knows about the serious things in this world, but they don't mean much to him. Unlike love.
Is there anything, specifically, that you want?
Oh yes. For starters, 60.000 US Dollars.
Shouldn’t you be amusing yourself here?
