Why not do some research? And remember, one of the things is that there are plenty of people who want to claim the 6,000,000 number is wrong. But part of the problem with Holocaust denial and minimization is that in order to accommodate those claims and studies, we must either go out of our way to overlook certain obvious factors, or pretend that if enough records are destroyed, large numbers of people never existed in the first place. A rational discussion of Holocaust statistics not only would be welcome here, but would be a fresh change for the anti-Semites and Holocaust deniers whose arguments are now so stale as to drive people away for the stench.

Start a low-value topic, don't expect the moderators to make large investments protecting it against flames and trolls. Closure was the appropriate route for the topic.
